collaborative learning helps "students to acquire an active voice in shaping their ideas and values and a sensitive ear in hearing others." this is important as it allows students to learn how to have an opinion but respect others

In the article I related to Cooperative Learning. I have found by teaching in my OPE's and learning myself for cooperative learning to be a very useful tool. Cooperative learning helps kids a lot by having them interact with one another and develop social skills that will later help them in life. This type of learning is very useful too because it helps kids develop different ideas from one another.

I like how the acticle states that we should be assuming diversity is in our classroom (because there will be!). I think that the tendancy in classrooms is to teach to the "average" student when there is no average student. Our lesson plans and classroom environment should take into account that we will have a wide variety of learners in our classrooms.

This is really cool as it takes people/students who have done really well at a class and pays them to help out current students taking the class by working with the teacher as an aid and instructor when need be. It focuses on classes that are "at risk" rather than "at risk" students.

One of the sections that stood out to me was the Goals for Education section. Obviously, a major goal for all students is to master the standards for each grade level, but education teaches them so much more. Students that are in classrooms learn how to be involved with what is happening around them, how to work in teams and with others, as well as how to participate and be responsible. All of these skills will be carried by a student for the rest of their lives.

Open-ended discussions can be a great activity for a variety of topics and content covered within a classroom. It allows a sense of freedom for students to discuss and introduce their personal ideals on a subject whilst hearing similar and or different ideas/opinions of their peers. I think these can be a great tool in the classroom. For me personally, I enjoy class discussions. I feel as though it helps me to think critically and strategically about a topic and I enjoy hearing from a variety of different perspectives.

I like the idea of peer teaching. I will be teaching a subject that is very content heavy, where a deep understanding is needed to get the whole picture. I think that it is beneficial for students to process together and teach each other what they have learned. This has also proven to help understanding and memory of concepts.

I enjoyed learning about collaborative classrooms because they stimulate both students and teachers. This process involves talking about what it means to question, learn and understand with others. This method calls for responsibility, persistence and sensitivity, but the result can allow for a community of learners where everyone is welcome to join, participate, and grow.

Collaborative learning provides diverse perspectives. This stuck out to me because our students each bring something different to the table when it comes to collaborative learning. Collaborative learning gives our students the opportunity to share their ideas but also shows that we are all diverse learners and have different ideas.

This section stood out to me because in our world today we are not very civil people. In many situations society does not know how to listen to each other and then respectively disagree. So I love that collaborative learning encourages students to have “an active voice” but also “sensitive ears in hearing others” by working with other students, children can learn how to work together, conquer disagreements, and be respectful to classmates.
