These substances mix with water and oxygen to fall down again as acid rain.

Effects: -affects lakes, streams, wetlands by making the water acidic
-water absorbs the aluminum from the soil
-harms organisms living in the water
-the rain removes minerals and nutrients from soil, harming plants and their consumers

DEFINITION:

Acid rain is any form of precipitation with a lower than neutral pH of 7 due to high concentrations of acid-forming chemicals.

CAUSES:

Acid rain is caused by a chemical reaction when acidic compounds such as sulfur and nitrogen oxide are released into the atmosphere and interact.

Sources of such chemicals are most commonly factories or volcanic activity.

EFFECTS:

Acid rain leaves behind acidic compounds which are absorbed into the soil and water which is detrimental to aquatic, animal, and plant life. Additionally, when inhaled by humans it can cause lung and heart damage though it most likely will only lead to short term illness. It can also erode natural features and man-made structures.

Definition:

a layer in the earth's stratosphere at an altitude of about 6.2 miles (10 km) containing a high concentration of ozone, which absorbs most of the ultraviolet radiation reaching the earth from the sun.

Causes:

Gases like chlorofluorocarbons, coming from aerosol cans, refrigerators and air conditioners, and chlorine have chemical reactions with the layer. Single molecules of any of these substances can decompose thousands of ozone molecules.

Effects:

This take away from the protection of the sun’s intensity meaning the sun will be more scorching hot on the earth. We only receive 1% of the sun’s rays meaning that if the ozone layer gets completely diminished, it will be unsurvivable. This will increase climate, and things like skin cancer and sunburn.
