It is a good idea to prepare a little visual as a reference for our students of some methods (e.g. the 7 self-questions) to be kept in their pencil cases and such. 

It is great to see how despite technical issues and  technological difficulties, all of us still kept going in our learning and presenting and made the best of situation. 

I appreciated the teaching of 3 Floss rules with the acronym they created, as well as the many examples shared in 1+1+1 so overlearning on our part is done for better memory.

One great AHA reminder today too is Multisensory styles of teaching is the way to go, (whenever possible) to ensure we cater to all students with various learning styles.

There isnt a straightforward solution that is able to solve the struggle.  The more we expose the struggling spellers to the different strategies, the better it is for them. They will then be able to choose those stratergies that suits them as they varies in the types of learners. Teaching them in systematic organized way will indeed help them alot. Along the way, there are many multi-sensories resources that we can use. So after we read up and research..realized that I was wrong. So we learn along the way this Fernald VAKT mtd although its developed decades ago. We also discovered that this mtd is similar to SDR local settings. The demo is done in a I do We do You do manner with my child, initially to be done in front of the LT.
So positive AHA moment is that everyday is a learning experience and even though the strategy was developed years or decades ago it can be useful to certain child according to their pace in another words different child has different learning style. I find that before a teacher start to teach strategies and techniques, it is vital to check their prior knowledge of their vocabs, their understanding levels of suffix, the syllable, vowels & consonant and their phonics exposure. There are lots of sharing and takeaways from the groups that has presented. It is a simple and effective way to get the students to remember part of the rule. I also really like it that everyone was very patience and helpful with each other. 

Also, throughout the sharings I kept going back to my personal To-Do list to write down things that I could do to improve my assignments and upcoming presentations. There were just so many inspirations and ideas while listening to all the wonderful sharings.

Self questioning cognitive strategy 

I learnt that this is a good strategy in equipping the child with the skill by breaking down the step to teach them how to spell the words. The child are taught to ask himself or herself a series of questions in order to spell the words. The child will need to prior knowledge of phonics and syllabus. It is
applicable for a child who has can do self directed learning
 on his or her own . And it can be used in a whole class
setting. You can also add in visual cues to help the child in
self questioning during spelling by asking them to place
 inside their pencil box.

Fernald method 
Fernald method is an approach to reading based on the idea
 that students learn best when material is presented to
several different senses. These methods, which employ
tracing, hearing, writing, and seeing, are often referred to as
VAKT (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, tactile). The Fernald
method teaches whole words.  How it is applicable - it is applicable to a child who requires differentiated teaching as not all child have the same learning profile. Some maybe visual learners, some are auditory learners, some are kinaesthetic Learners and so on. 1-1-1 or doubling rule is also a good simple rule for students to remember whether to double or not to double. For today's sharing, I remember the floss rule as I think that the presenters reinforced till SAM Loves Funny Zebra is embedded into my memory together with the special rules. Kahoot was also interactive as it kept us engaged and recalled our understanding and through zoom platform was a good one.
Fernald approach(VAKT)  gave us an insight of how to conduct spelling and vocabulary with our students incorporating the multisensory strategy. Videos showed efforts taken by our peers using their kids. I have tried some of the approaches with my students but not in depth maybe because I did not research on the strategy in detail.
