When the sentence is in the third person the verbs will have s-es or ies.

-The -s is added to the end of the verb only when the third person singular is used: he, she or it.

-For verbs ending in -y, you must replace the -y with i and then add -es.

-When a verb ends in "s", "ch", "sh", "x" or "z", the letter "e" is added and then the letter "s".

An "s" is added to the end of verbs in the simple present tense in affirmative sentences. However, in negative and interrogative sentences, the "s" should not be added.

-Examples:

Affirmatives:

• "He goes to school every morning"

• "She understands English"

• "He usually plays football"

Questions:

• "Does he usually play football?"

• "Do dogs hate cats?"

• "What time do we have lunch?"

• "Does she work every Saturday?"
