This elections campaign was very different from the kind we have today. Instead of the nominees traveling around the country to gain support. It seems like they were just plain out lazy. Being the crazy people they were, they didn't think it was proper to be directly campainging for president. Instead they just used letters and newspapers to make their views public.

The Constiitution elects groups of electors to cast the ballots in order to elect the president. Thus the canidate with the most votes became the president. In 1800 Jefferson and Burr each got 73 electoral votes. Therefore they were tied and the House of Representative had to decide the winner.
