They only agree to it because he is rich and they think Victoria has went mad because she supposedly saw Victor but they do not believe her because them and the whole town thinks he is dead. He shows affection to Victoria and plays a good man act but originally he is a bad person and is trying to kill Victoria so he can get their riches and move on to the next woman. His plan is to poison her on wedding day but Victor and the dead decided to save them and turns out Barkis was the one who killed Emily and is the reason she is dead.
