After the Battle of Yorktown, I, to a degree, perceived that we were going to win the war. Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, a few others, and I decided we should form a Treaty with Great Britain. The Treaty primarily served us; as we had won the favorable terms. According to my perspective, the conditions in the Treaty were completely fair, as we had won. We are now called independent with Britain! I am content now that we have been separated by the country that had governed us unfairly, treated us terribly, controlled us with poor decisions, and never respected our natural rights. "Thirteen wheels require a steady and powerful regulator to keep them in good order..." In other words, we need a better government that can regulate our states better.
-Benjamin Franklin

The Treaty of Paris was the document that ended the American Revolution. It was the document that made colonies, states. This document made America a independent country, one from Britain. This Treaty, written in 1783, stated six different conditions. These conditions stated:

1. "The United States was independent."(Creating America Textbook Page 196)
2. "Its boundaries would be the Mississippi River on the west, Canada on the north, and Spanish Florida on the south."(Creating America Textbook Page 196)
3. "The United States would receive the right to fish off Canada's Atlantic Coast, near Newfoundland and Nova Scotia." (Creating America Textbook Page 196)
4. "Each Side would repay debts it owed the other." (Creating America Textbook Page 196)
5. "The British would return any enslaved persons they had captured." (Creating America Textbook Page 196)
6. "Congress would recommend that the states return any property they had seized from the Loyalists." (Creating America Textbook Page 196)

This Treaty wasn't fully lived up to Untied States or Britain. The Americans paid back the money they owed Britain for the prewar debts. Neither did they return Loyalist property. Meanwhile, the British never returned the runaway slaves that they had captured. In addition, they never gave up military outposts in the Great Lakes region.

The Treaty of Paris was a negotiation between Great Britain and the United States.

After the war had taken place, the colonists became the United States. The United States gained land.

The Treaty of Paris was a negotiation between America and us, Great Britain. After the Battle of Yorktown, we were ultimately defeated. The Americans, unfortunately, had the better terms in the Treaty of Paris. I feel anger towards them- we owned them. We lost because we thought this would be an easy war- but it wasn't. The Treaty of Paris has hereby announced that we are not the Mother country of America. "...some have to lament over the wreck of their departed wealth and estates," I say. We didn't just just lose the colonies, the colonies lost us. They will also suffer. I had to resign because we lost. It was a devastation.
-Former King of England
