This is my project. My idea is a tree with anemone petals falling and hearts growing off the branches. This symbolizes the seasons changing but the love everlasting no matter how much time passes by. Love and friendship is everlasting. I chose to give this card to my best friend and roommate because we will be friends and love our friendship forever, we have already been friends for 7 years! After all the sketches were done I will used watercolor to paint the petals and colored pencils to color in the branches. I added the word lasting on the outside above the tree.

Hey class, this is the greeting card I made for my friend, Hanson. I decided to draw a tree because I know it has significant meaning in Chinese culture. Also, it is one of few things I can actually draw, haha! I decided to incorporate a lot of branches to signify all of the experiences we've had together, particularly, going to raves around the world. I left the top half empty and utilized the word forever to convey all of the experiences we will continue to have in the future, and forever! I also added some glitter to add some pizzaz to convey having fun. I decided to give the card to Hanson because he is one of my closest friends, and is also Chinese, so, he will understand the meaning of the character. I was inspired when I sat down and truly thought about who has had a great impact on my life, Hanson, being one of them. Some of my greatest memories I had with him. Overall, I had fun doing this and look forward to giving the card to Hanson!

Hello! Here is my greeting card for my best friend, Ariel. We have been best friends for nine years now, so you could say that our friendship is everlasting. I decided to paint cherry blossoms as my anemone and gift of friendship. Although cherry blossoms came from Japan, they are cultivated in many provinces in China. In China, cherry blossoms represent female beauty, dominance, power, and strength. I believe that my best friend exhibits all of these characteristics. Her beauty radiates from inside out, and she’s never afraid to speak from her mind. I included the word “forever” at the bottom right to demonstrate that no matter where life takes us, I know that I can count on our friendship to last forever. When working on this card, I kept deciding whether I should add more symbols and colors. I know now that simplicity is beauty.

Hi everyone! This is my greeting card for my my family. There are two words on it, one is 'yong', the other is 'ai', which are the two important words to me and my family. I LOVE family FOREVER. I've learned that family is the only thing that lasts forever. I want to color this greeting card to make it colorful and more artistic, but I don't have any crayons or paints available, so it seems very simple. But isn't family simple? It can tell how my family means to me: love, forever, and simple. My family is my motivation, my inspiration, and my strength that encourage me to try my best and never give up, no matter how hard life is. I know that my family is always beside me and support me eternally and endlessly. Right now, I am not with my family, but they are always in my heart despite any geographical distance from the U.S. to Vietnam. "Distance means so little when someone means everything." My family is my everything!

Hi guys! This is my greeting card that I made for my grandma. My grandma loves flowers and always has a bouquet in her house. I know that I won’t always have my grandma here with me, but I will always have the memory of her in my heart. My love for her will be everlasting. I drew a bouquet of flowers as my anemone and painted them pink because pink is my grandma’s favorite color. Flowers are soft and gentle just like my grandma. I made the Chinese character, “everlasting,” bigger than the bouquet because flowers will die, but the memory of my grandma will live on forever.

Ni Hao! I chose to dedicate my greeting card to a lifelong sister/friend. Her name is Gianna and she just recently got engaged! I chose to draw an orchid flower because it symbolizes love and beauty. Also, an orchid can be a representation of a married couple. The flower also represents wealth and fortune, and when placed in a vase, it exemplifies unity. My hope for Gianna's future marriage is revolved around the meanings of this orchid and I am so excited for her! Heres to beautiful love:)

This is the greeting card I made for me and my boyfriend’s 3 year anniversary which is coming up on New Year’s. I chose to draw 3 connected Tulips for a couple of reasons. One being that tulips symbolize “rebirth” and our anniversary takes place on the start of a new year, and the second reason being that they also symbolize “the perfect love”. I chose to draw the three of them connected to show our three year continuous journey together. I added the Chinese character for forever, to indicate our love (cheesy, I know). I also decided to add watercolor and paint outside the lines to make it a little messy and show that although situations can seem messy and imperfect, it doesn’t take away from the beauty of the overall picture!

Knowing this, I drew her some flowers myself for the greeting card I made for her. I couldn't think of anyone that deserved a lovely card more than my mother because she is more than deserving of one! I chose the character "forever" because I know that the love me and family have for her will last forever. I’ve included the character which means everlasting and eternal, because he will always be an important part of who I am. I decided to draw a branch of a tree with pink flowers. While a tree has significant meaning in Chinese culture, a tree branch with flowers was one of the first things my dad taught me to paint when I was a little girl. I decided to create my greeting card for my mother. Growing up Orchids were always a staple in our household all year round due to her. She loved them and thought they were the most beautiful flower so whenever I see them I am reminded of her. The orchid is a resilient flower, and a little bit of water and love go a long way. If it ever starts to die you can easily bring it back to life. Resilience is something that my mom taught me to have from a young age, she always reminded me that there was nothing that should stop me from moving forward. That I was strong and I could make anything happen.
I am really excited to give this to her because she will love the meaning behind my choice of flower and I know she will cherish it.

Hello everyone! Here is the greeting card I made for my parents. They have always been there for me when I needed them the most. I included 永 (which means forever and everlasting) because their love for me and my love for them is forever. Instead of anemone, I drew the marigold flowers from their garden. These flowers symbolize long life and I wish for them to live a very long life. While I was making this, I was worried that my parents won't recognize the flowers or the character. Luckily, they were able to recognize it and were very happy!

Hello:) This is my greeting card that I made for my grandmother. This year was really hard on my family. My grandmother has Alzheimer's disease, and it started to progress badly earlier this year. I wanted to make something special to remind her how much she means to me. Her favorite season is spring, so I decided to have the focal point be a cherry blossom tree (not because it's her favorite, but because it's easy to paint haha). I included the word "forever" because I want her to know that she is loved always and forever. Though her memory isn't doing well right now, I hope seeing this card will make her smile. She truly deserves all the happiness in the world. She's the strongest, most independent woman I know, and I am so lucky to be her granddaughter. I had a lot of fun working on this, and I can't wait to give it to her :)

Hi, this is my greeting card that I made for my mother. She really likes the annual cherry blossom trees that bloom in Japan, but due to the coronavirus she wasn't able to go see them this year. So, I thought it would be a great idea to give this to her. My mother has always been supportive of me no matter the situation. Her love towards me is unconditional regardless of if I am at home or if I am in Texas. This is just a reminder for her that I feel the same way and that hopefully we will be able to go see her favorite cherry blossoms in 2021!

Hello everyone! Tomorrow is my girlfriend’s birthday so I have made these card as one of the gift to her. I have written several card, but the two in my picture are my best work so far. At first I, when I heard about greeting card, I thought about small cute card, so I decided to use this type of card, which I found in my local calligraphy store. Since this is a gift from my girlfriend, I wrote the word “ai”, which mean love. I did not know that we have to decorate the card at first, so since my card pretty small, I decorated it with colored string bellow it.

Hello everyone! I am by no means an artist, but I chose to make this greeting card for my best friend. I wrote out the character for "friend" along with some images that depict what our friendship means to me. I drew sunshine and rain as well as a blossoming garden at the bottom. This signifies that through the good times (sunshine) and storms in our lives, we always have each other. The garden at the bottom indicates our blossoming friendship throughout all of the trials in life and I chose not to do color to indicate the simplicity and ease that fuels our friendship. I had a lot of fun making this card and am excited to give it to my best friend!

Hi, this greeting card is for my ex. She broke my heart over a phone call and I wish her the best moving on. Sometimes things don't work out but I hope she's taking the time to focus on herself. The palm trees and island are significant because I am from Hawaii, and we spent a lot of evenings surfing together and staring out on the horizon at sunset. The boat represents her on her own journey with calm waters to guide her.

Hello Class! This is a greeting card for my parents. Their 30th wedding anniversary is coming up and so I chose orchids and the everlasting symbol. I love orchids, and we always have them in my parent’s home. Orchids are also a Chinese symbol for marriage, so I thought it was appropriate for the situation. They also represent good fortune, and so I think they are a sign of good luck. I took a design class, so I used InDesign to create my card. I scanned in 永 from my brushwork on the nice paper we needed for class.
