         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fact #1: During the Old kingdom the power of the Egyptian monarchy reached its zenith. The king was powerful enough to mobilize a significant percentage of the population to move to Giza during the farming off-season and help to build a pyramid.<br><br>Fact #2: Following the might of the Old Kingdom, the Egyptians were one people, united and proud. Although the nation was sometimes divided in strife, it always reunited eventually.</div><div><br>Leaders/Famous People:<br>Some rulers were Djoser and Khufu during this time period.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fact #1: Egypt was reunited, but things had changed. Pyramids were smaller and there was less wealth in the hands of the rulers. However, the middle class gained access to consumer items such as jewelry and books(in scroll form).</div><div><br>Fact #2: The Middle Kingdom was a time of great literature. Scribes would copy the stories and instructional writings of this time for thousands of years hence.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>New Kingdom(2040-1640 BCE)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fact #1: The New Kingdom, often called the “Empire Age,” began with the Eighteenth Dynasty, famous for such fascinating rulers as Hatshepsut and Amenhotep III. Another famous pharaoh, Akhnaton, set up a short-lived new religion worshiping a singled god called Aten.</div><div><br>Fact #2: Egypt guarded herself after the Second Intermediate Period. She carved out an empire using foreign allies as “buffer states” to guard against invasion. Some of these lands never realized the Egyptians were “using” them. They constantly asked the pharaoh why he had not sent them presents of gold.<br><br>Leaders/Famous Person: A famous pharaoh   in this time period is Akhnaton.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fact#1: The Assyrians invaded Egypt in 663 BCE. They drove out the Nubians and then, distracted by troubles at home, they left Egypt to its own devices. Psamtik, an&nbsp; Egyptian king of Libyan descent, set up the Twenty-sixth Dynasty.</div><div><br>Fact#2: This revival did not last long. The Persians occupied Egypt(twice) until Alexander the Great arrive in 332 BCE. Egypt would be ruled by foreign powers from the time of the Persian invasions united 1952 CE, when she gained her independence from the British.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>
