On September 30, 2022 an explosion, reportedly caused by a deliberate attack, inside Kaj Educational Center in the Afghanistan capital of Kabul has killed 25 people and injured 56 people, the victims are mostly young women studying for their university entrance exam.

Statement by Asuntha Charles, World Vision Afghanistan National Director:

“It is with deep sorrow that we learned once again, that innocent young lives have fallen victim to a cruel and senseless attack. This inhumane act has taken the lives of people and has engulfed many families in utter sorrow and devastation. When someone goes to a facility to learn, they hope to learn, grow and have a future, where they can play a role in making a brighter tomorrow for themselves, their families and their communities.

"The next generation of Afghanistan is at breaking point. Their safety and protection must be prioritised by all duty bearers. World Vision condemns the reported deliberate targeting of an educational facility. World Vision calls for a peaceful solution to protect civilian life in Afghanistan. We send our thoughts to the families of the deceased at this utterly tragic time.

Children who do not have access to education are more likely to experience poverty, unemployment, and other social problems later in life.

They are also less likely to be able to contribute to their community and country in a meaningful way.

Furthermore, a lack of good educational materials and facilities can lead to a lower quality of education, which can have a negative impact on a child's development and future opportunities.

In Nigeria, the lack of access to education is a particularly pressing issue, as the country has one of the lowest rates of school enrollment in the world.

In addition, the quality of education is often poor, with a lack of qualified teachers, inadequate facilities, and outdated teaching materials.

This lack of access and quality of education is further compounded by the ongoing conflict in the country, which has led to displacement and destruction of schools.

To address this issue, it is important to increase access to education for all children in Nigeria, improve the quality of education, and invest in teacher training and school infrastructure.

It is also important to provide educational materials that are relevant to the local context and culture.
