When I care for myself ... everyone else can be cared for. My practice as an Instructional Tech person can be more energized when I'm making plans on how I am going to care for myself. Yoga in the morning is a habit I've created that I'd like to spend more time doing. What self-care tips do you use?

"When Students Just Won't Stop Talking"- just teach them a sign. It can be a scissors or peace sign or okay sign or whatever’s culturally acceptable in your classroom or wherever you teach, it can be any old sign. And all they do is just hold the sign up, and the sign means, “I’m really sorry, but I have to listen to the lesson,” or “I’m really sorry, but I have to do my work.”

6 Powerful Learning Strategies You MUST Share with Students was about studying and showing students how to study. Teachers often tell students to study for a test, but they don't always share how to study. The ladies in the podcast go through several strategies that are simple and efficient. They have a website with videos, posters, and explanations on strategies that are effective for studying. Here is an example of a poster with pics and a few descriptions https://static1.squarespace.com/static/56acc1138a65e2a286012c54/t/57d06a99f7e0ab4e5fecc328/1473276569668/Spaced+Practice.pdf

Ah hah. I found that validating students is how everyone should be validating each other to begin with. Negative things we might not like can actually be used in a positive way and change our views depending on how we go about managing the situation. Using a student who talks a lot to lead conversations and giving praise and respect will bring that student around to your side and recognize that that behavior can be used for good.

Thinking you have to stay busy at all times is not normal. Teachers have a tendency of putting themselves last if they even see to themselves at all. We as a profession are over tired and we need to stop this and start taking a bit of time for ourselves. Self care doesn’t mean a spa day but instead means a moment of quiet reflection to restore yourself. Step outside for a few minutes and BREATHE!! Close your eyes and with those breaths let it go.

I have some students who are extremely challenging to keep quiet. The start of the podcast that addresses this first identified reasons behind this student behavior, and I could strongly identify with a couple. One that surprised me was the concept that the student(s) don’t understand what I mean by staying silent. I thought about the difference in age (student vs me), culture, race, background etc. and entertained the idea that my definition needed explaining.
