In order for someone to be found guilty of first degree murder, the prosecution must prove that the person killed another person; the person killed the other person with malice aforethought; and the killing was premeditated. To kill with malice aforethought means to kill either deliberately and intentionally or recklessly with extreme disregard for human life. Premeditation means with planning or deliberation. 1.Do you think Medea planned the murders or was it in blind rage for Jason? I do believe that Medea planned the murders for all of the people that were killed. I heard her talking about it a lot. She was so angry and wanted to plan their murders in the way that would hurt Jason most. I saw her preparing the dress and telling the children to give it to Creusa. I also heard that she had locked herself in the room with the children right before she killed them.
2.Do you think Medea felt bad or remorse for what she’s done or do you think she just wanted to hurt Jason and get revenge? It is very hard to believe that Medea wouldn't feel some type of remorse, especially since she killed her own children. However, I think that she truly believed that this was the only way to repay Jason for leaving her.
3. Do you think the murder of the king and the princess was used to hurt Jason or she just felt the need to hurt someone? I think that the murder of the king and princess was used to hurt Jason. Medea knew that the princess was the one who was replacing her and that Jason seemed to love her better so she targeted her. We chose Jason because he would be the most optimal asset to use in prosecuting Medea for her crimes.

We chose the Nurse as she is someone who was close to Medea before and after the tragedy occurred and she would allow us to see what Medea was like before and after Jason left her.

Yes, through out the story I watched Medea doubts her plans and her ideals.

Medea had to feel some remorse because as a mother she murdered her children. Psychologically, this would have an impact upon a mother's mental health. However, I believe she thought this was the only way to act out her revenge.

Medea murdered her children in order to get revenge upon Jason. Seeing the children also reminds her of Jason’s betrayal, which leads to the two main motives of killing her children.

1. I feel that Medea was in a somewhat stable state of mind when she killed the children. Her life wasn't going well and she allowed her rage to overcome her and it took a toll on her mentally, but she was still a little stable.

Medea's children: Medea stabs her children with a knife. There was no mercy with the children’s deaths. Medea could have spared their lives but chose not to. She could have taken them from Jason another way other than death. She could have left town with the children but instead decided to get them roped into the situation.

2. Creon: Died from the poison of the dress and lit on fire trying to help Creusa. I think that Creon’s death was the most merciless of them all. Medea knew that Creon would take greater pain in seeing his daughter suffer than he would if it was just him dying. She fell to the ground, foaming at the mouth and then shot up into flames. This murder was ruthless and she showed no mercy. She had plenty of time to plan and double think what she was doing, but still decided to poison creusa. There was also added cruelty because Medea tricked her. Creusa thought she was getting a kind gift.

King Creon - poison - King Creon found his daughter dead and when he went to embrace her, he absorbed the poison as well. He tries to get up but chooses to give up and die alongside his daughter. There was no mercy in this kill. Medea knew that even though the gifts weren’t directly sent to him that he would try to touch creusa or hug her or something and that he would inevitably be killed as well. It was cruel and required planning. She knew that either way, living without his daughter or dying with her, it would be painful and she basically gave him the decision.

The sons - stab - When Medea hears of the deaths of Creusa and King Creon, she debates killing her children, but ultimately rushes to kill her children with a sword/knife and takes their bodie with her. This is exceptionally cruel because she very well could have just taken the kids with her and that way Jason would still be without them, but she decides to kill them instead. Means- What the nurse is saying she does not know what Medea will do because Jason just left her for Creon’s daughter. The nurse also goes on to ask herself will she kill the children, herself, or the bridegroom and the king.

Matters- This is foreshadowing by what Medea might do later in the story. Also is matters because it shows how Jason leaving has affected Media

Says- “The cup of all life shattered in my hand,
Longing to die—O friends! He, even he,
Whom to know well was all the world to me,

Means- She loved Jason a lot and to see Jason betray her like that broke her heart. She then says that to get a man to love you, you “ buy us mans love” meaning you have to do something for a man to love you

Matters- This matters because it shows how her love for Jason turns into hatred because of what he has done to her. It also is a lead up to who she is going to kill, which is everyone Jason loves.

Means- Jason is saying how he should’ve been the one that she should’ve killed not his sons and he cursed her because of that. Also he basically says he was blinded by how much he loved her that he didn’t see her savage ways and reminds her that she betrayed her home for him.

Matters- This what Medea intended, wanting Jason to feel the pain of everyone he loved dying saying it should’ve been him. Also Medea’s revenge works making him feel the pain she felt when she felt betrayed by him and I find it ironic that he says she left her home for someone when he left her for someone.
