I joined the STAE program in 2010 when I was in the 6th grade. Back then was when the program first started and it was called AVID. Every since I joined I fell in love with the environment, the classmates, and the teachers I've met along the way! STAE isn't just a 1 hour 30min class. When I walk in Mrs.Coleman's class I instantly feel welcomed by a group of people I now call my family! Here in STAE you build a bond and a life long friendship with your classmates! We are a family, we help each other get through tough times and we build each other up. I would recommend STAE to everyone, its such a good learning experience.

This year is my first year in the STAE program. STAE has been a big help to me with my grades. My grade point average has been the highest it has ever been in all four years at Hoggard. This program gives you extra time to do other classwork and you even get extra help from tutors and other students. Even in this first year in the program I've built a family-like bond with my classmates. I wish I could go back and join the STAE program in my earlier years of high school.

I have been a part of this program since 6th grade back in 2010. Since I came into the program, I have met a whole new group of friends. Both my brother and sister were apart of the AVID program, which is now STAE. To stay in this class you have to maintain self control and a 2.5 grade point average. Therefore, it helped me keep my grades up and work hard because of the constant support. The help of the tutors keep me motivated and determined to be the best man I can be. All the teachers throughout my years of STAE have pushed and help me keep the attitude i need to be great. All my STAE members have supported me while I was on the football field and on the basketball court! TO ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY ITS BEEN REAL "STAE 2K18"

I joined STAE in the 10th grade because I had a group of friends that recommended the program to me. My brother was also is the program at Hoggard years ago when it was called AVID. In STAE, I was challenged and surrounded by a strong support system. We became similar to a family. My STAE advisers challenged me to take higher level classes. I have grown tremendously academically, physically, and emotionally. With the support of my STAE family, tutors, and teachers I will be attending Virginia State University in the fall and playing volleyball on scholarship! The young woman I have become makes me very proud. An abundance of this growth is due to the STAE program. I would not have been this successful throughout my high school career without STAE. The program changed me for the better and I will be forever appreciative.

As well it created great friendships and memories that I will remember for the rest of my life. As well the class allowed me to keep up on many assignments and allowed me to work with tutors to fix mistakes I made. I would recommend the program to most people unless your going to join the military just do ROTC.

Not too long ago I had begun to believe that my academic journey would come to an end as I walked the stage at graduation, just as it did for both of my parents and most of my family. This was due to a variety of reasons but there to show me that I had the potential to make it farther in life were the teachers and students that make S.T.A.E such an incredible program. The biggest impact that S.T.A.E has had in my life is being able to apply to eleven colleges, getting accepted into six of them so far, and even have scholarships to a few of those schools that would cover everything! I would not have been able to do this if I had not been apart of S.T.A.E and having the support of the teachers in the program encourage me to take more challenging classes, which they knew I had the potential to excel in. I will forever remember and be grateful for the students and teachers I have met along my S.T.A.E journey and who have helped me achieve something I thought I could never have done.

I love being in STAE it has really allowed me to grow and experience things I wouldn't have even thought of these four years of high school without being in STAE. I wish I would have known about STAE my freshman year I'm sure I would have loved every second. The first thing that drew me into STAE was the tutoring which allowed me to excel and the family bond that made me feel as if I was a part of something, instead of going through high school alone I had all of these amazing people... who never fail to make me laugh or cry or smile. I know everything hasn't been perfect and that I can be a handful, but you guys always made me feel welcome regardless of the "Tyshea, YOU STINK" or the "Milk Jugs" and "Apple Annie's, Krispy Kreme Box". Then I would get all sad and sensitive and you guys would all laugh. I'm so glad I have made so many great memories with you all every year. Please continue to stay true to yourselves. I know all of you will do wonderful things in the future! Don't stop striving and always continue to pray and thank God for everything he has done for you, always remember he will never leave you. I will always be here for everyone of you. I want you all to know regardless of what I have said or done, I love you all with all of my heart.
With Lots Of Love, Tyshea
PS: Thanks to everyone who has taken my picture at least once out of these 4 years! xoxo

Being part of STAE has has such a positive impact in my life. I never had an idea on what my future would have in hold for me until I joined STAE. I never thought I would go to college due to my families lack of income. So I had to research different ways for me to make the impossible not an option. Finally I decided to join the military to help pay for college and learned what college was best for me. There was so much research and many trips to realize what kind of college would fit me best. My junior and senior year was the hardest years of my life. I had to work two jobs to pay for personal expenses, while attending school, and participating sports. STAE saved my grades and assisted me in tutoring to finish all of my assignments with a great understanding for each class. Thanks to STAE I made great friends, learned to give it my all, grew as a person, and student.

When you are in the STAE program you are surrounded by people who genuinely care about you and want you to be successful. My teacher and my classmates are like a second family to me. We are all always there to try and help each other when someone is in need. Some of my favorite things about the program is our tutors and the things they have taught us about college. If I had to try and figure out college admissions, Fafsa, and many other obstacles you reach during the process all on my own, it would have been extremely stressful. I think any child that has the opportunity to be a part of STAE should join because this class has been a blessing for us.

I have been apart of S.T.A.E since the 7th grade and have had a lot of great experiences that I will holding onto for life. In class you are shown both how to prepare and succeed in college, and to make new, maybe lifelong friends. Through the years I have grown so much through S.T.A.E, it has enabled me to become a better leader, person, and male role model for younger generations. And I hope to someday come back to a S.T.A.E program and give teens the advice I was given to help them be more than prepared but very successful in whatever they do! I just want to say to all the people in S.T.A.E 2K18 " Yall my family to the end, Luh y'all hot dogs!"

After picking on Coach Teller and getting to know all of my peers it became my FAVORITE class of all. I grew so close to everybody so fast and started making the best memories of my high school career. We did everything together in STAE and became inseparable even outside of the class. In tenth grade we had some new editions to our STAE class. It took us one day to warm up to them and they became apart of our family and STAE was better than ever. We all got along, laughed, smiled and even went through some of our hardest times together. We all worked as one to make sure that we stayed on track and kept living to our full potential. When one of us were struggling we all made it our job to uplift them and help them the best way we could, so we could ALL succeed TOGETHER. Not one person being left behind. In 11th grade I was in STAE for a little while before I left :( and then came back not being in the STAE class but still being apart of our family. Now here we are in 12th grade still picking, laughing and growing. STAE is by far my favorite class because despite everything that we grow through we always stick together. We have had so many accomplishments and good times and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I am so proud of our class... We all have dreams and I know that we will all achieve them. I will make sure that I keep contact with all of my brothers/sisters for as long as I can. I hope that we all continue to STRIVE TO ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE and push ourselves to our full potential TOGETHER. I love each and every one of you!!!

I joined STAE back in 2015-2016 school year; I joined because I thought it would help me get my mind together and help me to excel. When I heard about it I was struggling to pay attention and to stay focused. Not only did STAE help with that, but I found a family out of it. I was more involved in my classes and I connected with many people that became my friends. Teachers saw a difference and my grades went up. I went from taking on level classes to taking honors and pre-calculus courses. That was a big step for me, I used STAE to help understand what I didn't know in a class, that is when I realized STAE pulled out my full potential. I have grown with the people in STAE and it shows that you can't always do everything yourself and that you should not be afraid to ask for help. If it wasn't for STAE I don't know where I would be.

STAE 2018

There a lot of different things that could act as a perfectly good answer to this question, such as the help I received in the college application process or the access to tutors. Even though these are perfectly legitimate options, I think that what had a much more substantial and positive impact on me was the class itself. By this I mean the people who I got to meet through the STAE programs. For instance out of all my classes since middle school I have never gotten to know and respect my classmates personally more than in STAE. Many times, I don’t really connect so much with the class, however in STAE I feel comfortable and like I know everyone at least a little. The people in STAE class have always been welcoming and friendly, which isn’t always a quality of the all class environments. In addition to my peers, through STAE I have met some of my favorite teachers of all time; these teachers, even after I have left their classes, continuously support, assist and provide me with resources, help and counsel. They have gone above and beyond, and many times out of their ways just to help me out, which is something that never goes unnoticed with me. It leads me to question what would have happened if I weren’t in STAE? I mean it has made a huge difference, and I can tell you one thing, I would feel much less connected to Hoggard as a whole, it wouldn’t be the same. STAE came into my life at an uncertain yet heavily important time, when the world was changing, and the decisions I made would dictate my future; and as I leave STAE and look back, I can honestly say I’m proud, there were hurdles but I did it my way, and I have to say thank you STAE, for the part it played in my journey.
