"I was three years old, I was standing on a chair in front of the stove wearing a pink dress to cook hot dogs. " This quote is an example of coming of age because Jeannette had to mature sooner than others because she had to look out for herself and her siblings. The picture shows a girl growing up, it can relate to the theme because Jeannette was very mature for her age as a little girl.

"None of us kids got allowances. When we wanted money, we walked along the roadside picking up beer cans and bottles that we redeemed for two cents each." This quote shows that the children are independent and always find a way to get money. This picture is an example of the theme because the children find a way to get what they need.

When Rex lost his job, Lori said, "We all have to help out." Jeannette said " I guess we can eat less." Lori said "We have before." This is an example of chaos and order because the children always find a way to keep moving forward. Although Rex lost his job the children will sacrifice eating just so they don't move. The picture is an example of the theme because the kids were panicking since they thought they were going move again. Lori and Jeannette came up with a solution just so that they wouldn't move.

Forgiveness

"Everyone has something good about them. You have to find the redeeming quality and love the person for that." This quote shows that no matter what the person does you forgive them and remember the good qualities they have. The picture is an example of the theme because Rose Mary said to focus on the good qualities of the person. The boy doing a nice gesture will help the girl forgive him.

"Dad, please come, we need you. You're the head of the family! You're the dad! Come on!" This is an example of unconditional love because the kids still love their dad, even though all he does is drink. Also, even though he doesn't have a job, they still want him. The picture shows a family hugging, it relates to the them because the Walls family still have love for each other after everything they went through.

"Sometimes you need a little crisis to get your adrenaline flowing and help you realize your potential." This quote is an example of acceptance because when Jeannette and her siblings are older they realize everything they have been through has helped them have more potential. The picture shows that the Walls family went through dark times but at the end the children accepted it and moved forward until things got better.
