Cancer is non-communicable. When you have cancer, the cells in a certain part of your body grow old and, instead of dying, grow new, abnormal cells that can end up developing out of control. This can lead to potentially fatal tumours.

The exact cause for breast cancer is unclear, although there are a few risk factors that increase the chances of getting this type of cancer. Although it seems much more likely for women to catch it, it is possible for both men and women to develop breast cancer.

I. Age.
Age increases a person's likelihood to develop breast cancer. At twenty years old, the chance of developing this cancer is 0.6%. It goes up to 3.84% by the age of 70.
II. Genetics
When someone in your heritage has had breast cancer, or any cancer, it increases your chances of developing that type of cancer. People with a certain type of gene, BRCA1, BRCA2, or TP53, are more likely to develop breast cancer than those without.
III. Dense breast tissue.
Breast cancer is more likely to develop among those with denser breast tissues.
IV. Estrogen Exposure
Longer periods of exposure to estrogen can lead to an increased chance of developing breast cancer. This could be from taking birth control (which increases estrogen levels), or menstruating.
V. Alcohol consumption
Studies have shown that women who consume more than three drinks a day have a 1.5 times higher risk of contracting breast cancer than those who don't drink as much.

In general, a good way to try to prevent breast cancer is to counteract the counter-able risk factors. Such as limiting alcohol consumptions. Some other ways to help prevent breast cancer are:

I. Be active and eat a healthy diet.
By staying active and eating healthy, you can keep your weight in control and aid yourself in staying healthy.
II. Limit exposure to radiation, environmental pollution, or hormones (if possible).
Exposure to any of these things can lead to cancer, so a limited exposure will keep you safer. Of course, some of these things are unavoidable for most (such as hormones), however those who do HRT (hormone replacement therapy) and do estrogen, have an increased chance of developing breast cancer.

The older the person gets, the greater chances of breast cancer they will get. Women who live to about 80 years old have a high chance of being diagnosed, mostly women over 50 years of age when they might be diagnosed, and a few are diagnosed in their 20s. Breast cancer can mainly affect women, but men can also be affected. Getting breast cancer is mainly about a persons family background.
