I walk in this world as a Black man, a Father to 3 girls and 1 daughter, and a grandfather. As a native of St.Louis, Mo., I learned early in life that Black lives did not matter to those in power. I have marched against police brutality and racial injustice and I am proud that our younger generation has taken up the fight w/ us. This song sums up how I have been feeling these past 6 months.

Hi there! I'm the middle school science teacher at PREP Academy. This is my second year at PREP, and I am entering my fourth-ish year teaching. I'm from Queens, New York, and have lived in Colorado since 2011. I identify as an enby -- non-binary -- as autistic, and as a mom, and I am SO proud of my (very extroverted) kids for their resilience during this time of social isolation and distancing (while their mom, a proud introvert, indulges in the prescribed alone-time).

I grew up in Long Island, NY in a middle class white family. I went to Huntington high school where I was a 3 sport athlete. I then went to a State University in upstate NY where I wrestled division 3. After graduating I was able to attend Hofstra University, a private school back on LI, where I received a Masters in education. I was lucky to have supportive household that helped me through the process of education and eventually my career in education. I spent summers in Salt lake city Utah with family where I gained an appreciation for the outdoors through family camping trips.
My parents were very hard working, both grew up poor, my mother moreso than my father. However they were able to progress through their careers in order to privide a safe environment for my sister and I to grow up and learn.

Hi team! Just a clarification- when i say living life in the present I mean I continue to try to stay engaged and present in life in order to continue to grow.

A little about me: I grew up in Rutland, Vermont with my parents and two older siblings. When my parents split up when i was 14, I lived with my dad and sports became a driving force in my life. I was an avid soccer and basketball player, and went on to play D3 basketball. Throughout my high school and college years, I coached children in both sports. Realizing it was an outlet for me, I saw how truly therapeutic these things could be for all children. When i left my college and coaching career behind, I knew i wanted to continue to impact children positively, which led me to school psychology. I went to graduate school in Boston, MA and my passion for travel led me to move to Colorado to begin my career and life. I love working with our students and building connections with them, and continue to use sports/activity throughout my practice. In addition to my job, i love hiking, camping, water sports, and continue to play in basketball and soccer leagues. Spending time and staying connected with my family, friends, and coworkers is extremely important to me. Hey there PREP fam. I am in my 16th year at PREP and it has been a wild ride each year. Love this school and it's students so much even when grumpy!
I am from Iowa originally, graduated high school in the 60s, college at the University of Iowa for BSW and MSW social work degrees. Lived in Madison Wisc, Minneapolis, MN, Austin Texas and then to Colorado in 1990. I was in business for 10 years before going into Social Work as my family is full of business entrepreneurs. I have two sons, ages 45 and 48. 5 Grandchildren three of which are triplets and so special. I also have 2 great grandchildren who are just beautiful.
My Iowa roots came from my mother who was Scottish. She used to speak with an accent and always loved to use the word "wee". "Kathleen, let's go have a wee cuppa tea". Dad's side was Swedish and I think that is where I get my natural Socialist tendencies. Dad always told me to think for myself but be kind to others.

I just moved back to Denver from Boston after completing my m.Ed in language & literacy with a focus on healing-centered pedagogy, particularly in "alternative" spaces - so I have has the "pleasure" of being a student during covid, but not yet a teacher.

This is my 4th year at PREP and my 5th year as a high school teacher, however being a high school teacher is my 3rd career. That's why I consider myself a happiness seeker: I have learned that I am the only one responsible for my happiness and that if I'm not happy I should change that. I am from Southern California and my heart still lives there. This is my fifth year in Colorado and while I love many things here, I long to be back with my large extended family in California. I grew up in a large Irish family full of cops (my own father included) which has made me wonder what the hell is going on with cops today. I speak English and French (although my French has really deteriorated through the years). I am an artist and that is more and more a large part of how I define myself. I absolutely love to travel and have not done nearly enough of it. I know that traveling has made me a better, more understanding person who knows that people everywhere have far more in common than they do different.

Hi Everybody. I am a social worker, a mother to a teenager, a nature and animal lover, and a daughter and a sister.
I have been all over the place (maybe not always in a good way) in terms of where I have lived and the places that have formed me. Grew up in Nebraska as the granddaughter of Sicilian immigrants on my Dad's side and of white farmers on my Mom's side. I came to Colorado almost twenty years ago from Detroit, Michigan, where I worked and trained as a social worker. I am amazed and honored all the time to get to work with people and see their resiliency and strength up close.
I have spent years working on learning Spanish and continue to work on it. Looking forward to working with and getting to know you all!!

Hey team,
This is now my 4th year at Prep, 2nd as the counselor. So hopefully I have learned enough to help out and answer some questions! I have also been working in DPS for about 8 years now in a variety of roles and schools.
As for my life outside work, I grew up in New Jersey (and Minnesota for a few years). I went to college in Maryland before moving out to Indiana for a year to teach outdoor edu. Indiana ended up not being right for me, so I packed up and moved to Colorado and have been here since! Throughout all that, I spent a lot of time outdoors for work and for fun. I love hiking and camping, and then tend to avoid the mountains once the snow starts... Now I am trying to stay present through the outdoors and spending time with my family and friends, even if it is virtual. I am transgender and non binary which to me means that I am so much more than just a girl or a boy. This is why you should use they/them/theirs when you are talking about me - because my gender is multiple (and because of my mouse friend Henry who is always in my pocket - we don't want to offend him)

I am a teacher, brother, daughter, god parent, friend, Jewish, monolingual English speaker. I am a lover of math, science, art, sunshine, mountains, dog snuggles, delicious meals made out of whatever is left in the fridge, laughter, and having conversations where everyone is interrupting and talking over each other (really hard to do over zoom!).
