Why don't we add some creativity and personal touch to students' writing?
Have them write a description of scenarios, but through comics! They can even add audio to comic characters!
First, make small groups of students and let them express themselves as they tell what each person is doing . As for the task and its how-to's, the Book Creator app simplifies it all!

Let´s take advantage of the new tendencies. And ask students to be famous Tik Tokers or Youtubers. First, they create a YouTube or Tik Tok channel, they are told to make a short description of a place. They describe the places people can visit there (restaurants, museums), and activities people can do (surfing, kayaking, hiking, etc.) Also, Students can imagine, they traveled to a beautiful place in Costa Rica. And then they will have to make a review to their viewers to tell what they saw, did, ate and give their opinion about if they liked it or not this place.

Choose any popular fairy tale we all know. Divide the class into teams and ask Ss to change the ending into a 2022 version. They can include happy, sad or unexpected endings or they can include plot twists to create more drama. Ask them to include elements of pop culture in their stories. Stories should be role-played.

For this activity you need: 2 teams, a list of at least 50 content words. The idea is to divide the class into teams. Each member of the team will participate. In an impromptu speech, a student from team A has one minute to speak using as many words in the list as they can. Ideas must be connected, they cannot be isolated sentences. For every word in the list used, the team gets a points. Then a student from team B does the same, and so on. The team with more points win.

This is a pair-work activity. Students sit facing each other. Student A has 3 minutes to tell a story at normal speed (a real story works best), while student B takes quick notes of the ideas to keep a timeline of events. Then you ask student A to repeat the same story but this time in 2 minutes, mentioning all the events and ideas from the fist time. Student B checks that all events were mentioned. Then, ask student A to repeat the story, again, but this time in 1 minute.

As they speak faster, the class gets noisier and it is more complicated for everybody to focus on their task. It is funny and develops fluency.

If you think that 3, 2 or 1 minutes are too long, you can keep it like 1.5 minutes, 1 minute and 30 seconds, or so.

When using modals, students could be assigned to record a YouTube Video in which they pretend to be influencers on a YouTube Live Streaming, in such they read questions “sent by their fans” (they create the situations) to which they give a piece of advice.

Sample Situation:

Dear Dr. Wisdom

I’m your faithful follower. I have found your suggestions to be of great help. Therefore, I’m thankful for your clever recommendations on the endless numbers of situations you usually address on your live streaming. My neighbor just gave birth to her first baby boy. She has been a nice person to me and my kids as well, so I’d like to retribute such attentiveness now that she has her baby. However, I have some doubts.

Should I visit her at the hospital, or I ought to wait until she gets home?

Must I take something for her or for the baby?

Do I have to take my kids over to welcome the new baby?

Among others…

Then, Dr. Wisdom replies… (using modal auxiliaries within his/her sentences).

Some other ideas for the situations could be giving up smoking or drinking, traveling abroad, losing weight, studying for a difficult test, stop procrastinating, attending a job interview, and so on.
