My mother always tells me how lucky I am that I do not have to complete my assignments on a typewriter much like she did in the 60s. You would have to use your correction tape if there were an error and it was a time consuming process.

Microfiche to gain sources

To complete research assignments, there was the microfiche. The Microfiche preserved newspapers and allowed you to find dated sources. My mother states that she spent hours finding information on this through the 60s and 70s.

A real laptop!

By the time the '90s hit, my mother's classrooms had laptops being used by many college students when she was a professor. This changed everything, she was excited but had lots of learning to do.

Smart board enter the class

In 2003, my brother's classes introduced student collaboration and the use of the smart board. Students were able to write and collaborate using the smart board. He said it would always have issues. When I was in all grades of public school, we always had a smartboard and I can agree that it would struggle often.

iPads for school

When I had gone into middle school, we were each given our own iPad. There was not much to do on these iPads and I remember there being issues with them being charged, loading outside of school, etc.

Chromebook time

By the time I entered high school, we each had our own Chromebook. This was done before covid and it was especially useful when we had to go fully virtual.

Controversy over the phone

When my brother was in High school and iPhones were new, you wouldn't dare take it out in class or it would be gone. Today it is often beneficial to have your iPhone in class due to the amount of information at your fingertips.
