Summer reading

This summer I read the book called The institute, written by Steven King. In my opinion, it was a masterpiece. It centered around two characters. One, a cop who lost his job, and is now beginning a new life in a podunk town. The other a brilliant young boy who has small, but special powers. It is a classic tale of children being abused and striking back. (The ending was a bit unsatisfying though.)

It was actually my mom who first got the book, and at the time I did not want anything to do with it. All I had in my mind was that Steven King makes nightmare books. Eventually after my mom finished the book, she suggested the book to me. She told me that all the reviews on the back about it being horrifying was just because people assume Steven King books are scary whether they are, or not.

I did take her advice, and I am so glad I did. Once I started I could not stop.

So I hope you enjoyed reading this, and I highly suggest this book to fans of kids with supernatural powers, two story lines that intersect, and revenge. Thank you! Good Bye!

Book suggestion: The Spider wick chronicles.

The Spiderwick Chronicles are a modern masterpiece, and I highly suggest them to you. I read the entire series in fourth grade, and then reread books one to four in fifth grade. The first book revolves around Jared Grace, the odd ones out in his family full of wonders. The story is about how the family moves to a small town, into their home once inhabited to be used by their great-grandparents house(I think.) But, as they live there more and more they begin to find out odd things about the house and the world beyond. I bet you can figure out where it goes from there. When I first read this book, I was immediately enthralled, as to where I started to devour anything, even closely related to the Spiderwick Chronicles. That is why I think you should read the series, or at least the first book. I suggest this book to people who like fantasy, hidden worlds, magic, and kid heroes.

Book suggestion:Dune

Dune is credited as one of the greatest novels of all time, which it is. Which is why I think it should be on the top of your reading list. It centers mainly on Paul Atreides, member of the great Atreides family in the far, far, future. After being moved from their home world, the Atreides and their soldiers are forced to relocate to Arakkis, otherwise known as Dune. Their task is to extract Dune's expensive spice, Melange, and rule Arakkis. An already hard task, but what they do not know is that treachery is afoot. I am not going to talk any more about it, so I do not spoil the book, you should seriously read it. It is the first Sci-Fi book ever, to have actual world building. I first tried to read the book in about third grade, but I found the book to boring. But in fifth grade I picked the book back up again, and finished it all the way through. It was an incredible book that was very well thought out. Also, by the way it spawned many sequels, so if you ever want more of it, you are in luck. I suggest the book, to Sci-Fi fans, deep and thought out book fans, politics in a book fans, and one in a series fans.

Some evidence throughout book that proves what I say is that, even though he is a huge geek and knows about movies and shows that prove that puling you head into some thing is a bad idea, he still thinks there are no problems with the ONI. He even ignores the lessons in the movies, when Art3mis specifically points this out to him. One of his better traits though is how he is grateful. He shows this by paying l0hengrin the full one billion for helping him find the first Siren's shard. This is also backed up by the fact that he is never bashful when he needs help.

I believe there is a strong connection between the tests that happen in Firestarter, and the MKUltra projects. The reason that I believe this is true is because the tests in Firestarter happened in 1969 to 1975, while the MKUltra tests happened from 1953 to 1973, which are similar dates. These tests were shady government ones, led by the Shop in the books, and the CIA in real life. In both cases some of the subjects were student volunteers. Also in both cases horrible things happened to the subjects. Another conspiracy that could be related, is the Montuak Conspiracy, where children were being kidnapped and being experimented on. But Montuak might be the conspiracy that Firestarter took basis off of, due to the fact the conspiracy circulated in the early 1980's when the book was published. Also, instead of torture projects to reveal secrets, like MKUltra, Montuak was about having kids being experimented on and gaining powers.

Even though in the first book it was shown that the population was addicted to the OASIS, there was no problem with it. But, in the second book, people were more addicted than ever, and it was brought up quite a few times throughout the novel.
I think this is symbolic of how people are addicted to social media, and TV nowadays.

I believe two motifs in Fire Starter could be caring and kindness. This has popped up throughout the story in multiple ways. Such as how two random hitch hikers picked them up out of kindness for the first one. And because the second one cared, and wanted to make sure the family was okay. They also did not just do that, but one of them gave them money so they would be stable for a bit. The second one took this one to a whole other level by inviting Andy and Charlie for lunch, offering to help them defend themselves from the Shop, and finally giving them his Jeep so they can get away.

Another example of this is how charlie states that if there was only one apple left to eat, her dad would only take one bite of it, and give the rest to her. Andy also said that he would have killed himself already if it were not for Charlie. This shows that he suffering through the pain of life because, he cares for her, and wants to make sure she will not fall a terrible fate.

I really loved Dungeoneer Academy. It was based around a fantasy world where if you want to become a great explorer, you go there. It centers around the one human there, Coop Cooperson, and how he is always left out, and is failing class. The turning point happens when the train that is taking him and his friend to the final adventure test, when the tracks get blown up. Now the crew is stuck in a dangerous mushroom jungle, that they have to survive.

Now one character I would like to talk about is Axel. A stereotypical muscle of a head bully. He is also of course a disloyal person, shown when one of Coop's friends plants a pacifier in his bully friend Zeek. But something I would like to point out is that he actually drops the bully act when he has to. For after the disaster Coop and the gang decide to stay at the wreck. But Zeek wants to keep going, for he believes it is a "competition." However Axel actually tries to listen to reason by questioning if they could stay with Coop. But, Zeek orders him along. With Axel leaving with a chill "See ya."

A theme is most likely to persevere. The reason I believe this is because even before the catalyst happens they all have problems. Daz's parents ignore her, Coop is the only human in the school, Mindy has too much pressure on herself, and Oggie, whose dad wants him to give up on his dream. But all of them kept going , refusing to give up ( except for Oggie, but we will get to him later.) Of course this comes to a head as they have to start fighting diamond guardians and river creatures. eventually they all start to break, and are about to give up. But eventually Coop is able to convince all of them to still keep going. Even after getting their butt kicked by a giant fungus spider, they still kept battling, until they were finally able to defeat it.

The Outsiders is one of my favorite books of all time. It is one of two books that I finished in days! So now I would like to talk about it. Ponyboy Curtis was born into the southside of town, born into greaser hood. Born into a poor life. Even though he and his friends are tormented and jumped by the rich socs. But it all goes wrong the night someone gets to drunk.

I will now anlyse all of the greasers.

From Left top to bottom right.

Darry Curtis is an ovebaring brother, shown throughout the book as he constantly critizizes his brother, even after him getting jumped. It eventually comes to a head when he slaps Ponyboy for acidentally falling asleep in a lot. Even after all of it however it is shown he cares for his brother, even not going to collage, something he never got settled with. And he broke into tears after Pony came home after the fire. And he only ever did it to try and make sure he could live a full life, and not waste his potential.

Dallas Winston is the perfect example of the stereotype of greasers. A dirty hood, who steals, goes to prison constantly and drinks. And he truly is that, harrasing Chery, and Marcia and slashing Tim's tires. But he has gone through a hard life, going to prison at ten for the first time. His father also never gave a care about his being, as he says while talking to Johnny. But he trully does care about somepeople. Willing to go to jail by telling Johnny and Pony boy where to go after Bob got killed, and gave them a gun to protect them. Even when the police brought him, he lied about where the boys were. He also tried to convince Johhny not to turn himself in. Even rescuing him from dying in a burning church. And commiting sucide after Johnny dying.

Sodapop is always trying to stick up for both his brothers, always litening to Ponyboy, getting mistreated by both his brothers in thier arugments. He is one of the best of the group working constantly at a DX to help the family. He is not just dating the girl he is dating, just to make out, he truly loves, shown when he tells Ponyboy. He is a bit dirty though, as Pony says that he might have joined Dallas in harassing the girls. However later in the book Pony says

I have finished FireStarter. And, to be honest, it is a bit of a disappointment. Now first let us talk about what went well. The ending, was a bit ambiguous, but you knew what was going to happen. And they way it just ends with Charlie saying "Yes," she said. " I've been waiting for a long time." It is such a perfect end to the novel, especially since Charlie was smiling when saying it. It brings so much hope and cheer knowing everything will be told. It is even a bit funny, considering the librarian will be in for one heck of a story. Another part of the novel that worked well, was how Charlie just let go at the end, not caring that much about using her powers. It was also really fun, when Charlie and her Dad, are just staying at her great grandfathers place, and you just hear some slice of life, them enjoying themselves, and having a father daughter relationship, with out being hunted. Also, the tension was done incredibly well, where I felt I might explode in some moments. For example, when the two were going to be captured by the Shop, I was on the edge of my seat!

Now let us talk about what did not. After Charlie escaped, it got really slow and boring, like we do not care if the Manders family is being threatened in Poland. Also, something I have figured out, Stephen King wants to make his novels realistic, even if it gets in the way of a good ending. For example, even if it is realistic if the entirety of the Shop does not go down after that one incident, we, the readers, want it to, so badly. It also does not help that Charlie is merciful, these people have done terrible experiments, awful murders, and disgusting cover-ups. I mean I do not want Charlie to think logically and fairly, I want her to use her power at it's highest force.

Now a character I would like to analyze is John Rainbird. He is a cruel calculating person shown multiple times through out the book. He is also extremely smart, which shines, when he is able to play Charlie like a fiddle. Getting her trust, friendship, and getting her to do tests, because of his genius and master manipulation skills. Now, ( relating back to before,) here are some examples of him being an awful person. Wanting to kill a child, fine doing acts of terrorism and did them, fine with murdering people and did, wanting see something from people dying, and manipulating said child. He is also a bit insane, considering through out the novel, he has this odd obsession with death. And always is sad that when looking into someone's eyes as their dying, he always just sees confusion. He also, oddly thinks that Charlie is the key, wanting to kill her very badly to find out. He also says he is in love with Charlie, which could mean Platonically, Romantically, or in a pet sort of way. With Two of those being signs of Creepiness and insanity. He is also planning to kill himself after Charlie, just cause, which does not help his case.

I honestly think that Tim got a little sidetracked at the end. We have read about the men of Alpha companies and the horrors they faced. With hearing about how Ted Lavender got shot through the head, Curt Lemon getting blown up, Lee Strunk dying, and Kiowa drowning in poo. We have also heard how the war affected people even when they did not die having their mental stability break. And we truly felt like we were there with them, and we grew to know the boys, and we wanted to know what truly happened to all of them. Except, instead we heard of his childhood love that died. We had never heard about this girl before, and the book was not even about his childhood. It was about the horrors he saw in Vietnam. The friends he made. The Friends he lost. That is what the book was about, not the power of dreaming and your nine year old love. I mean, it is kind of disrespectful considering that you just randomly throw your tragic love story at the end of the book. We want something satisfying or even something not satisfying, just something that is related to the book. That is why I feel like Tim could have ended the story better, by just talking about what the book is, and not who you are as a child and who you were.

Currently I am writing a Non-Fiction book, and I have just read a Non-Fiction book about the Normandy invasions. One of the main things I am going to try and replicate from the authors writing style, is putting in the non-important things. For example, he talked about major skirmishes that did not really play a big part in the invaision, I am going to try and do this to. For example, even though this does not play a major role in the story arc of the Dream SMP, I am going to try and write about the Pet War and the Railway War, for they have happened, and deserve to be discussed. I also would like to make the history fair, for sometimes, the main characters, do do bad things, or fail miserably. The author from my book did this by talking about how the Allies really got curbstomped at the beginning, and some of the bad things the Allies did. I plan to talk about this to, talking about how some wars were won by evildoors, and how some times the good guys do scummy things. For I will go to great lengths to make my Bi-weekly good.

Today I am going to talk about my Biweekly's character traits.

Lets start with Tommy. Tommy's character has changed a lot, but today we are going to talk about the early version of Tommy. He is very determined, we have seen multiple times how he will do whatever it takes to get his wants and needs fulfilled. This is shown how even though it would make a enemy of Dream, he continued to get all that belonged to him. He also lets himself die multiple times, meaning he can lose even more than orignally, as long as he got what was the most important to him.

A character trait of Tubbo is his sheer loyalty. Tubbo has always stuck by Tommy even before the SMP. In the SMP he wanted a newer future but when Tommy called, he came back. Tubbo could have easily said no and ignored all of this, but after the bond these two shared he could not leave him.

Dream's character trait is his narrow mindedness. The main war is caused by Dream refusing to just give the discs back for free. And even when Tommy has the discs back Dream, refuses to let it go continuing the war, destroying minecraft property (see build battle on Punz' yard), just because he thinks he think it will cause peace.

Clea character trait

One of Clea Character traits is her confidence. It is not one of the main traits, but it has been showed throughout the story. One example of this is when she is says　”I`m doing my best and I think it's pretty good. But if I only have a certain number chances left an you're keeping score, we probably shouldn't be friends." This show how she was confident enough to realise that her friendship was problamatic. She always wanted to be friends, and revive their their friendship. But when it comes to it , she is confident enough to perhaps to turn the friend ship, for it could really make her feel bad, which could make red feel offended. Another example is when she states " No, mom I say back. I heard every single thing you said about me, so don't even try to deny it. This is evidence because it show her being confident enough is how when she feels attacked by her mom, she openly talks about it. This shows that even though she could get grounded, she is confident enough to talk about how hurt and misunderstood she is.

Piggy Character trait

I am actually just starting the book, but I have already found a character trait that I think is interesting. When I first heard about Piggy, I thought he would be a lost dog doing whatever it took to have friends. But know that I am reading the book I realise he actually does stand up for himself. "About being called Piggy. I said I didn't care as long as they didn't call me Piggy; an' I said not to tell and then you went an ' said straight out-." This shows that Piggy will not do anything for Ralph's approval, he will stand up for himself, voicing his anger for Ralph. Another example of this, is when after being blamed for the disappearance of one of the younger kids, he says this "How could ,.. all by myself? They waited for two minutes, then they fell in the sea..." He is talking about how everybody ignored him, or left him to keep track of the others. Due to this he is not going to whisper sorry, he is going to stand up for himself, and even put some of the deserved blame on Ralph.

Treasure Island

Treasure Island is a classic in the book world. It's plot is that a old sailor happens upon the main character's parent's inn. The sailor turned out to be a old pirate with a map to a island of treasure, which a crew and the boy set sail for, but there is something more to the crew, specifically the kindly cook. A character trait in the book is that off Long John Silver. Unlike most pirates, he is not foolish in the slightest, a example of this is when he says "Well who crossed me,? Who forced my hand, as was the lawful cap'n? Who tipped me the black spot the day we landed?" He is talking about how he wanted to play it safe and have everything be planned, and perfect, but the other pirates made him rush. The theme of the story is that an no how hopeless something seems, the tide can be changed. This is shown when the pirates who seem to have the upper hand, start losing which is shown when Long John Silver says "...-I'm with you there- and looks mighty like a hornpipe in a ropes's end at Execution Dock by London town, it does." After being on top of the world having a ship and more people than their enemies, they are know certain of their execution.

Enemies

The main plot of Enemies is that middle schooler Felecity, is grappling with her friends and her self esteem, while trying to win a competition. A Character trait that I would like to point out is the character trait of Felicty, her standing her ground. This is shown many times through out the book, one such example is shown when she says "What do I do if my partner keeps offering really bad ideas?" She just got into a huge fight, cried, and maybe lost a friend. But she still held her ground on what she thought was a bad idea. Another example of this when replies to her friend asking her what their good idea was. "No it was not the delivery cats. ...although, like, what was your plan there? What about Animal cruelty laws?" Even with her trying to apologize, she is still holding her ground, not just saying sorry, and that her idea's were not great. One of the themes is that it is okay to be not the best.　In the story one of the last lines is "I mean, I still feel the pressure. Because the world is still... ...The way it is. But I won't ride me anymore. I'm gunna live my life, at my own pace." She is saying this after at the beginning of the story where she wants to be better at finishing her projects, and winning things. But at the end she is okay that she is a not a complete winner and on time finisher. But she is okay with that for what she said is "But I won't let that ride me anymore. I'm gonna live my life, at my own pace." This shows that se realizes that she is not what she wanted to be at the beginning, and she is okay with that, and happy to continue her life like that.
