My son’s recent achievement in taekwondo reflects the value of hard work and dedication, often seen as central to meritocracy. However, his success is also rooted in the advantages he enjoys, such as access to training facilities, supportive mentors, and a stable environment. In contrast, the child from Gaza, who lost their limbs due to war, faces insurmountable barriers that no amount of effort can overcome. This stark difference highlights how inequality, both domestically and globally, undermines the ideal of meritocracy. Opportunities are not equally distributed, and privilege often dictates who can achieve, leaving others, like the child from Gaza, unable to even compete due to circumstances beyond their control.

However, when thinking sociologically; things such as gender impact my choice. For instance, me choosing a skirt which is a stereotypically feminine clothing. Also Goffman’s theory makes me think to what extent I wear is for myself, or for how I want to be perceived by others and even how I perceive myself
