In the novel, there are 3 old ladies knitting weirdly large socks. Percy dosen't think much about them but Grover keeps muttering to him self.

The Fates decide a human's life and how and when they died three days after they are born. They are usually depicted as very old ladies making string or thread. One makes the tread, one spins it and one cuts it. They were feared all across ancient Greece.

She has blond, curled hair.

She has been at Camp Half-Blood for the longest.

In the book, the car crashes and they see a person with a blanket over their head. When Percy gets a closer look he realizes it's a Pasiphae's son and it wants to kill him.

It killed Percy's mother in front of him and then he kills Pasiphae's son as revenge for killing his mother.

It's mainly known as the Minotaur. It has the body of a man and the head of a bull. It was sent to Minos by Posiden as a sacrifice. It was locked in a labyrinth until Theseus killed it.

""I'm afraid that was a pseudonym. You may call me Chiron."" (Riordan, 64)

I think pseudonym is a cover name for spies.

It was mentioned by Grover as a curse.

Percy is just confused when Grover says it.

Styx is a river in the underworld. In one legend, Alexander the Great was poisoned. In another, Thetis dipped her son in to the river to make him tough.

I think it's some kind of weapon.

This myth is first mentioned when Percy asked Chiron about it. Chiron told Percy to not think about it, but I think Percy is still curious about it.

Ruled by Hades and Persephone, the underworld is the kingdom of the dead. It's watered by 5 rivers. It's also guarded by Tartarus.

""Some of us year-rounders- Luke and Clarisse and I and a few other- we took a field trip during the winter solstice."(Riordan, 99)

He is the son of Hermes.

Also is a very good sword fighter.

He gave Grover shoes that make him fly.

"She'd apparently gotten over being hosed down, because she was laughing and belching right alongside her friends." (Riordan, 103)

I think it is showing some kind of joy .

They are mentioned when everyone was going to dinner. One girl was seen melting out of a tree. Everyone thought it was normal but Percy thought it was a little weird but didn't say anything.

They were spirits of the forest. Hamadryades were born with trees that there life was tied to. When the tree was thriving, so were the residents, but when the tree died, so did she.

"When their child was born, a little girl named Thalia... well, the river Styx is serious about promises." (Riordan, 114)

The legend is that Thalia was a daughter of Zues and constantly hunted by monsters sent from Hades. She and two other half-bloods were trying to get to the camp, but she told the satyr to get her friends to safety. She sacrificed her self to save her friends. Zues put her soul into a tree on the edge of Camp Half-Blood to protect the border.

She had black hair with a "punk style" haircut with green eyes and freckles across her nose.

"The short burst of manic energy had completely abandoned me." ( Riordan, 111)

I think manic means that something is really happy or positive.

"affected with, relating to, characterized by, or resulting from mania

Hades is mentioned when Grover tells Percy about the deal the three brothers ( Zues, Poseiden, and Hades) made.

Percy wonders about Hades like he wonders about the underworld.

Hades is the god of the underworld and king of the dead. He is the son of the titan Kronos. In one legend, he kidnapped Persephone and married her. She ate 6 pomegranate seeds in the underworld, so she spreads six mouths in the underworld and six months with her mother (Demeter). This explained why one half of the year is cold and the other half is hot.

" I am the spirit of Delphi, speaker of the prophecies of Pheobus Apollo, slayer of the mighty Python. Approach, seeker, and ask." (Riordan, 140)

The Oracle tells prophecies.

She is a mummy.

When she tells one, green mist tells the prophecies in an illusion.

I think it means to help someone.

The Titans were mentioned when Chiron was telling Percy about how the Cyclopes made Zeus's lightning bolt for war against the Titans.

Percy was just trying to understand what Chiron was saying.

The Titans ruled the cosmos before the Olympians. The most important Titans were Cronus, Oceanus, Iapetus, Hyperion, Crius, Coeus, Rhea, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe, Themis and Mnemosyne.The titans and Olympians had war and the Olympians won.

""This is Argus," Chiron told me." (Riordan, 150)

He has eyes all over his body.

He is the head of camp's head of security.

"We careened out of the Lincoln Tunnel and back into the rainstorm, people and monsters tossed around the bus, cars plowed aside like bowling pins." (Riordan, 164)

I think it is another word for a sharp turn.

The Cyclopes were mentioned when Chiron was telling Percy how Zues's lightning bolt was made.

The Cyclopes are one-eyed monsters with enormous strength. They were imprisoned by Cronos but set free by Zues. The original three (Steropes, Arges, and Brontes) were skilled blacksmiths that made Zues's lightning bolt.

She is a sweet old lady that invited them them in and fed them at first, but shows her true form as Medusa.

They did not introduce themselves but she still but she knew their names.

""They'll think you're impertinent."" (Riordan, 186)

I think it means to be annoying.

She tried to kill Annabeth and turn Percy into a statue.

The legend says that Medusa was a very beautiful girl who was a priestess to Athena. She was in love with Posiden and they met in Athena's temple. To punish Meduse, Athena turned her into a grogan that would petrify anyone who loked at her and banished her to an island. Many try to kill her but fail. Until Perseus cut her head off and used it as a weapon.

Gladiola is a pink poodle that Grover found in the forest and started a conversation with him.

She helped the tro by telling them to give her back to rich owners and take the 200 dollar reward.

Grover wants a searcher's license to find this god that is 'dead' but the Satyrs don't believe it and try to find him.

Pan is the Greek god of nature. He is depicted as a satyr. Pan is feared in his unseen presence.

I think it means to endanger.

Percy asked Annabeth if Hades had a hat like her invisible Yankees cap and that's when Percy learned about the Helm of Darkness.

The Helm of Darkness grants the wearer to radiate fear and control the shadows and the dead. It was forged by the Cyclopes. Any mortal that wears it will be driven to madness or cause their heart to stop.

"". . . an adolescent boy,"" (Riordan, 216)

I think it means unknown.

"a young person who is developing into an adult : one who is in the state of adolescence"

Percy is the son of Poseidon and he claimed Percy in capture the flag.

Poseidon is the god of the sea. He is part of the big three (Zeus, Hades, Poseidon). He is known for his violent temper.

""You're Clarisse's dad," I said "Ares, the god of war.""(Riordan,226)

He is Clarisse's dad.

He bought Percy, Annabeth, and Grover cheeseburgers.

He said he would help them if they get his shield.

"We veered toward the stall farthest from the street, keeping our eyes open for patrol cars."(Riordan, 219)

I think it's a sharp turn.

In the message to Luke, he said the teams were taking sides and mentioned Aphrodite.

Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty. She loves to spread kindness, but gets jealous some times. In the legend of Psyche and Eros, she got jealous of Psyche and wanted her to marry a monster.

He looked like he was pretending to be Elvis.

He has been in the Lotis Casino since 1977.

"Grover let out a mournful bray."

I think it means a sad noise.

Annabeth told Percy she was scared of spiders because Arachne's children want to get revenge on the children of Athena.

Arachne was a very talented weaver, and she challenged Athena to make a better basket. Athena made a pattern of the gods in their best glory, and Arachne made them look like clowns. Inraged, Athena turned Arachne into a spider.

"I walked down into the shoals." (Riordan, 270)

I think it is a type of coral.

He was mentioned when Percy talked to the Nereid, she was telling him the people that made it out of the underworld alive.

Hercules is known for his strength and completing the "12 labors" he performed. Hera, his stepmom, hates him. Most of the 12 labors were killing some kind of animal.

He owns a water bed store.

His real name is Procrustes.

Percy kills him with his own water bed.

He is the fairy man or the person that guides the dead to the after life (underworld).

When Percy, Annabeth, and Grover are wondering which line to go in when they see Cerberous.

Cerberus is a giant three headed dog that guards the underworld. Its main role is to keep the dead in the underworld. Most people say he has three heads, but some people say Cerberus has more.

"The room looked just like in my dream, except this time the throne of Hades was occupied." (Riordan, 309)

Percy, Annabeth and Grover, thought he stole the master bolt, but he didn't.

He told them that his Helm of Darkness was missing.

He had to expand his kingdom because of the amount of humans dying.

"Grover told me they were poplars-grew in clumps here and there." (Riordan, 300)

I think it is a type of plant.

When Percy was passing through the underworld, he passed the garden of Persephone.

Hades kidnapped Persephone and took her to the underworld. Demeter (her mother) was so sad that the world turned cold and plants died. Zeus went to talk to Hades about letting her go. She ate 6 pomegranate seeds. So Zeus said that Persephone would stay with Hades for 6 months and the other 6 mouths with her mother.

He is Percy's father.

He met Percy when he was returning the lightning bolt.

He wants to see Percy's mom but can't.

Mount Olympus is the home of the gods. It is where Zeus's throne is and where he keeps his lightning bolt. Hades preferred to stay in the underworld and Poseidon the sea.
