         <description><![CDATA[<div>- medium-large shrub that forms dense thickets<br>- 6-40 stems grow clumped from the base of the shrub<br>- stems are often crooked and lean<br>- alternate, roughly toothed, oval, 2-5 inch long leaves that turn orange to red or purple in the fall&nbsp;<br>- nuts grow in tight clusters of up to 15 at the branch tips<br>- nuts are hard shelled, smooth, light brown when ripe<br>- each nut is wrapped in a pair of ruffled leaves with sticky hairs OR tapering tube/ "beak" with tiny spines (Corylus cornuta)<br>&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
