For example, tall mountains can create a change in climate but can also act as a border where settlers wouldnt need as much protection as areas without them.

Geography acts like a catalyst for prosperity or disaster. It can be used to someone's advantage or someone's disadvantage when it comes to battle, etc. Geography in this case, was a challenge, especially for crops, which people need to survive and prevent famine. If people lived on mountains, then it would be hard due to the terrain being sloped, and the soil may or may not be fertile as well. Another example would be if the land is very dry, which would not do well for crops especially if water is scarce. This posed as a great hurdle for some, since there are several things to consider when it comes to survival, growth, battles, and trade.

For example, people were less likely to settle in the mountains, because they were challenging to farm around and lacked fertile land, which they needed to grow crops/food. Another example is that areas around rivers/bodies of water were densely populated because the settlers needed a water source. Land over there was much more rich and fertile (perfect for farming), and could be used as ports for travel.
