Harmonising - Within other parts of the song there is an element of using harmonies to make sure the song has a sense of variety to add interest.

Folk music generally was used to tell a story as Courtney's song does. She used the theme of following your dreams but told through the story of her own childhood

The guitar work uses a simple strum pattern during the verse, changing to a more  traditional boom-chuck strumming pattern during the chorus.

Runs - This is when a series of notes are such rapidly together to create a specific effect this is also called a trill. The video here shows how this effect can be created.
Vibrato -Courtney uses her vibrato to add an ectra energy to her song.

We tried very hard to keep our version of the song as close in style to the original as possible, although we were unable to include screaming as on the original as it was not a technique people in our group could do.
Pop Punk is considered a happier style and this might fit with the songwriter and singers theme. When asked about the song  "McKinnon stated that the song is about "taking chances, and doing what you think is right regardless of what people might think. To be honest, whats more important? Live life, and be happy with yourself"

It started with a simple thought, one line and developed into a means of me trying to explain to others how I feel each day trying to communicate and live my life as an autistic teenager.
When I was asked what genre it is at first I just couldn't place it.   I tried to link it to styles used by other singers I thought might use a similar style I began to see it fits into the alternative rock or Indie genre.
