Elementary school is often a child's first experience in a school setting. The expectations I have for my students start with establishing their routine. Not every child goes to preschool or daycare even, so teaching basic classroom etiquette and routine is a crucial first step to their success. I believe that every student can succeed both academically, socially, and emotionally. However, some need extra assistance to succeed and I must ensure they have the necessary resources.

As a future school counselor, my vision is clear. I want to provide a counseling program that will reach every student in my school. I would like to work in an elementary school setting where the student's educational journey is just beginning. Providing emotional/social support to even the youngest students will help set the foundation for their journey as students and in life. Teaching the academic counseling curriculum to my students will help them understand school better.

Offering my professional opinion to families of students who might be struggling by writing a referral or sitting in on an evaluation will help even the more challenging students receive the help they need in and outside of school. I want to be a leader on the academic support team at the school. A school counselor is an integral part of the team at all schools. I want to be part of the community rather than being isolated, which includes being involved in classrooms and assisting teachers where needed. I aim to reach every student in the school and offer every service I can provide to ensure the success of all the students on my caseload.
