Nobody knows whether or not witches actually exist(ted), so all of these people could have been innocent.

As shown in Document E, most of the accusers lived on the western side of Salem Village, so they farmed poor land and lost their political power. And most of the people accused of witchcraft lived on the eastern side of the village, and they had gained much wealth and political influence. This tells us that the poorer people accused the wealthy of being witches so that they could take over their land and gain power. I am surprised that these people are willing to have others killed just to become rich and powerful themselves.

Based on the information shown in Document B, most of the accused and the accusers were women. The women who were accused were mostly married, but the women who were the accusers were mostly single. After reading this, you can infer that the female accusers might have been jealous of the women who were married, so they accused them to witchcraft.

According to Document D, Charles Upham, a historian who had studied witchcraft in much of his life, believed that the afflicted people were just acting. He thought they were doing it for fame (of doing something bad), and that the blindness of the community saved them from punishment. I also think they were acting because I don't believe witches exist, so they couldn't have been telling the truth.

I think that the Salem Witch Hysteria is a big misunderstanding, and many others agree. According to Salem Witch Trials Facts, "The Salem witchcraft trials are perhaps the most well known and yet misunderstood series of events in American history." Witches can't possibly be real. Witchcraft isn't real either. I feel like people overreacted to something that wasn't important, and blamed it on witchcraft. Overall, I think that the Salem Witchcraft was something that was unimportant and a huge misunderstanding.
