This is the first stage of Eriksons psychosocial development stages, and it is essentially where the child begins to understand what to trust and not, whether this is a person, toy, animal, etc. As a child I resolved with the trust, and my mother would always say that I trusted everyone and would never be shy when someone would try to pick me up or play with me. I did not show any mistrust and was a very happy baby so she said it was really easy for her as a mother. It says in the text," In these early months, babies need to develop a balance between trust, which lets them form intimate relationships...If trust predominates, they can develop hope."

This is the second stage of Eriksons pyschosocial development stages, and this is where as a very young child you begin to develop a sense of individualism and you do not need to depend on others for everything as you had to previously. They are able to articulate better what they want and this is an important thing for them to be able to do at this stage. By the time I turned 3, I was very independent and could play by myself, do things by myself, and even eat on my own. Some text to support this is," As children are able to make their wishes understood, they become more powerful and independent."

This is the third stage of Eriksons pyschosocial development stages, and this is where you begin to develop a sense of knowing that you can fail but still going forward, or in my case failing and letting that get to you and drag you down, making you feel guilty. I would always shadow my older brother even as a child and never feel good enough compared to him, and to make it worse I would often get into trouble over silly things as a child and the feeling of guilt would make me shape up and knock off the silliness. Some text to support this is," If you feel ashamed after getting caught doing something others think is bad, that might make you from doing it again."

This is the fourth stage of Eriksons pyschosocial development stages, and this is basically when the child is advancing and using more skills and earning their own sense of worth, or feeling bad because they are doing the opposite and always messing up. I had a rather low self esteem growing up and would always be hanging out with the wrong kids and would frequently get into trouble at school for talking too much or just being a distraction in class and whenever the teacher would scold me it made it worse and worse for me. My older brother was very good and set a good example that I did not follow and that made my parents angry at times too. In the text it says," If children are unable to obtain the praise of others or lack motivation and self-esteem, they may develop a feeling of low self worth and thus develop a sense of inferiority."

Identity vs. Identity Confusion

This is the fifth stage of Eriksons psychosocial development stages, and this is where the person is finding out who they are and what they believe in, or the opposite and that can be very bad as it could result in loneliness and sadness. I was on the identity confusion side and I never really had a true friendgroup to rely on or lean back on and I did not know what I believed in or stood for yet. It was a very hard time but once I started figuring things out, it was a lot better. In the text it proves how finding your identity is important by saying," Adolescents who resolve the identity crisis satisfactorily develop the virtue of fidelity: sustained loyalty, faith, or a sense of belonging."

Intimacy vs. Isolation

This is the sixth stage of Eriksons pyschosocial development stages, this is where people around 18 to late twenties start developing serious romantic relationships and success in these can lead to positive things while failure at this can lead to the obvious isolation. Now I have been in a few romantic relationships but none really lasted for better or worse. The failure of these and seeing all of my peers around me starting to begin getting married and focus on their long lasting relationships has began to take a toll on me and made me think that I am extremely behind in my own development. So the isolation has been unfortunate, but I am no longer worried about it as how I used to be. Some text to support this is," People seek to make commitments to others or may suffer from isolation and self-absorption." The reason I chose this picture was to show my "isolation" from relationships and I spend more time with my dog than with relationships.

This is the seventh stage of Eriksons psychosocial development stages, and this is basically when you get to around your forties and you decide whether you want to be a mentor for the next generation or if you want to be someone who denies all of that and decides to stay with their current ways and does not want to change. I have not reached this stage yet but I will be in the generativity stage because I want to help out everyone I can and do anything to help the next generation feel comfortable with living especially as the world is what it is now. Some text for this is," Mature adults are concerned with establishing and guiding the next generation."

This is the eighth and final stage of Eriksons psychosocial development stages, and it is where you are either at peace with yourself and the decisions you made at the end of your life or you are not and are in deep regret and anguish of what you did not accomplish. I am not in this stage obviously but I will be in the integrity as by the end of my life I wish to have accomplished everything I can in order to set up a future for my family and the next generation together. Some text for this is," Elderly person feels acceptance with their own life."
