We need to gather information about what votes are available in the following groups: House Committee, Senate Members, House Members.

Once we have identified which group we have the best chance of success with, go through each member of that group individually and see what issues (specific to their home district) can be drawn out in favor of swaying the legislator to our interest (re: Clara’s example about mobilizing students in the state leg.’s home district)

Our biggest challenge was lack of access ot the information we needed to guide our decision. How do we craft a meaningful, pragmatic strategy when we don't know the interests of the legislators voting on the bill and the unique political landscape of their home districts?

Group 8 (Steven, Noah, Morgan)

Two specific actions we decided to take to stop this bill included physical lobbying, and indicating to our policymakers that large, diverse groups of people do not agree with this bill (by distributing information to these people on our side, and inviting them to call/email senate members, as well as establishing direct contact with lawmakers/senators through meetings and pushing them to flip their vote.

We experienced a challenge in deciding whether or not we wanted to be allies with corporate actors as they do not often align with grassroots strategies and beliefs --ultimately, considering the power of corporate actors, this may be a time where they are our allies. The formal organization of these groups bring a different tone to the conversation around the support or non-support of a bill by a senator, where their words can hold the power of their groups collective interests. Especially when money is tied heavily to power, having corporate actors who are using their resources and influence in conjunction with our goals are particularly valuable.

PLG Group #6

We plan to work with many of the groups in the mobilize portion of the graph, including (Coalition for Diverse Campuses, Atlanta University Center Consortium, Georgia Equality, United Campus Workers of Georgi.) to connect them with each other and form a large united coalition which can take action against this bill in the form of demonstrations and direct contact with representatives.

We also plan to focus some energy on finding common interests with the Georgia Board of Regents and Georgia Chamber of Commerce, because both of these groups have a high level of power and are on the fence about where their support will go. If we are able to demonstrate to them that opposing this bill supports their interests they could be very powerful allies. We think attempting to partner with them is important, because it could be detrimental to our cause if they give their support the other way.

One struggle we had was deciding the best way to use our energy with low power players to give them the most power possible, while remaining realistic about what we can accomplish.

We want to coordinate and organize with the ACLU and Georgia Educators to research each member of the Georgia state senate. This research will provide us with insight into how senators may vote on the bill. We then want to call, email, and arrange meetings with senators who may be open to opposing the bill.

We will repeat this action for the Georgia House members, in the case that the bill passes the senate.

One challenge: how can we truly convince senators/house members? Can we be sure they will listen to us?

-- PLG Group 7

David- og in group 4, kinda in 3. I had a dual pronged approach. I believe that trying to meet with Senators behind closed doors would be effective to stop a vote before it happens. I also believe that mobilizing some of our allies and friends to write testimony, speak publicly can raise pressure on the state house to not even consider the bill.
