It’s midnight. You’ve set the LED lights in your room to the brightest setting possible. You’re holding the blue stuffed dog you’ve had since childhood a little too tight. You quickly grab the remote and turn off the lights as swiftly as you can. You hold back your breath as you hear a creak. With that one sound, your mind goes insane and thinks of the many possibilities. It could be a monster, an inhuman creature that resembles a loved one, or it could be a demon trying to steal your soul right out of your body. You hear and feel its footsteps coming closer. You shut your eyes as tight as possible and pray that it’s not a monster. You feel a wisp of air on the tip of your nose. You cry out mentally for help. You start to think, ¨this is the end. I’m done, for I’m going to die! There’s nothing I can do. What would I do to a monster three times my size¨. You can’t help it, and you open your eyes. You can see everything in the room, even yourself not moving in the bed. It’s as if your soul left your body, but you can still feel your body. You try to see what is standing beside you. It’s a tall, slender humanoid body bleached white. You try to see what its face looks like; you try to get a better look, but then all of a sudden, it quickly raises its head for you to see. A long pale white face, glowing white eyes, with its mouth wide open baring its fangs. Its mouth is like an abyss that leads to a black hole. You try to scream out in fear, but your body and mouth are frozen. You try with all of your might, but nothing is happening. You suddenly let out the most blood-curdling scream, and all you do is let out a small ¨humpf ̈. As the entity moves closer and closer to your body, you scream out in horror, your body pulsating with fear. You quickly think of something, then at that moment, your vision goes dark. Then suddenly, you can see the creature again. It’s now standing in the corner of your room. It slowly opens its eyes to show that its eyes have transformed from a bright pale white to a dark menacing black. Its eyes were like wormholes leading into a distant universe. You then feel a change in the atmosphere. You start to hear a sharp ringing sound like the static of a TV. You begin to feel the most amount of fear, not fear dread that you have ever felt in your life. All of a sudden, the entity teleports right into your face as it starts to stare directly down on your face. You begin to regain control of your body with all your might. You try to turn over and face the other direction. You then open your eyes and see the monotone wall where the entity is out of your vision. You then feel a presence above your head. It’s as if the cold touch of death put its hand on your shoulder. As you think of ways to save yourself, you lose control of your body. The entity comes closer and closer with every breath till the only thing you can see is its face. Its elongated look shows a different reaction from what it had before. This reaction is of remorse. As you see its face, you wonder what happened to the entity. The entity’s mouth starts moving. You can’t hear what it’s saying. Its mouth starts moving faster and faster. All of a sudden, you hear it say “they’re here” in its distorted voice. You feel a feeling of warmth as it disappears from your vision. You slowly regain control of your body and swiftly reach for your LED light remote and turn them on to the brightest color. You jump from your bed, looking in your room for the entity; you feel a moment of relief. There's no one in the room. Afterwards you check the clock on your wall. The time is 12:00 a.m.

On page 187, when aunt Seymour needs Isabel to be her maid for a bit, it “Aunt Seymour needs sal”.now makes more sense because she could have bought a new slave and had that happen, but she took Isabel. When she requests Isabel, she hopes to keep her and protect her from the locktons, but then the fire occurs, so she has no place to stay, and she is left weak from the fire. Then, during the fire, she entrusts Isabel with her most prized positions the letters from her husband and his photo. She charged Isabel to be with them because she had also been through much pain throughout her life. After the confession, Isabel thinks about lady Seymour in a different, better light.

Animal experimentation has helped find cures for many illnesses that threaten human’s life. Animal testing is ethical because it can help find treatments for many diseases. We can find out the problems with viruses and drugs through animal testing. Animal testing helps find cures or treatments for lupus, diabetes, and cancer. When animal experimentation is conducted, we can find out the genetic code in viruses to kill the virus. And, we can see if the drug being tested will harm human patients.

Animal testing is ethical because it can help stop viruses and cure other illnesses. It can also benefit animals because the same medicine cures animals. In the article my lupus story: how animal research saved my life it says ¨ animals being used in lupus research today includes mostly mice, and also some rats and rhesus monkeys. A fair amount of veterinary research with dogs also occurs, as they suffer from arthritis and lupus as well¨. When they use the animals, they would also be developing a cure for them while making a cure for the humans. The animals being used may be the key to saving thousands of human and animal lives. In this excerpt from animal research: is it necessarily evil? The researchers say ¨Maintaining the welfare of animals is also of considerable benefit to researchers. For example, where animals are sick or in discomfort, results will be highly flawed. Animal research can be a costly business, so a lack of provision of humane conditions can also lead to major financial losses. Finally, there are major legal implications to consider. Anyone not adhering to regulations can face penalties ranging from the loss of research licenses to imprisonment. This excerpt proves that they try to maintain their health when testing animals. Because if the animals are sick, their results won't be as accurate when the animals are healthy. Animal testing has some downsides for the animals, but it has tremendous benefits for many more animals and humans.

When people discuss the alternatives to animal testing, they talk about things like human and digital testing to try and find the solution to create vaccines for viruses. But some people view human testing as cruel and digital testing’s results as insufficient, so they believe animal testing is the only correct answer at this point. The article “animal testing-pros & cons,” states “Chimpanzees share 99% of their DNA with humans, and mice are 98% genetically similar to humans. All mammals, including humans, are descended from common ancestors, and all have the same set of organs (heart, kidneys, lungs, etc.) that function in essentially the same way with the help of a bloodstream and central nervous system. Because animals and humans are so biologically similar, they are susceptible to many of the same conditions and illnesses, including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.”This evidence from the article shows that when animal testing is conducted, the animal’s genes are very similar to human genes. There will be little to no difference in the outcome when testing medicines. In “Animal testing pros & cons,” it states, “Laboratory mice, for example, live for only two to three years, so researchers can study the effects of treatments or genetic manipulation over a whole lifespan, or across several generations, which would be infeasible using human subjects. Mice and rats are particularly well-suited to long-term cancer research, partly because of their short lifespans.”Scientists prefer to use mice, guinea pigs, rodents, and rabbits because of their shorter life cycles than humans. That way, they can observe the effects of the product from when it was administered to the animal, when it was younger, then they can watch the results when the animal is older to see the side effects. Despite the many advantages there are downsides to animal testing too.

Many people believe that animal testing results aren´t accurate and that it doesn’t work on humans. For example, in the article ¨Animal testing provides a flawed model, so why not stop¨? in the section ¨Animal testing gone wrong¨, it says ¨The thalidomide tragedy of the late 1950s and early 1960s is a well-known example for the inappropriateness of animal research. Thalidomide had been tested on several animal species and found to be safe, even in large doses. Yet thousands of children worldwide were born with missing or shortened limbs after their mothers took the drug for morning sickness.¨ When thalidomide was tested, the animals didn't react badly to the medicine, so the scientists thought that the treatment would work on humans. But if you experimented now, with our current level of technology, the outcome could prove different, and you could get different results. Even though thalidomide was flawed doesn’t mean that all medication tested on animals is useless. For example, in the text ¨animal testing provides a lousy model, so why not stop¨ it states In contrast, penicillin may not have seen the light of day if it had been tested on guinea pigs or rats – it kills guinea pigs and produces birth defects in rats¨. This evidence proves that some medications may have side effects on certain animal species compared to other animals. That is why it is important to plan experiments carefully. With current technology and the understanding of human biology, it seems clear that animal testing will be the only viable option for years to come.

The primary purposes of animal testing are to understand biology and find cures for illnesses that threaten the lives of countless people. The more animal testing conducted, the more insight we have about our and animals’ genetic codes and how to stop illnesses. We also learn more about human and animal biology to help us prevent the outbreak of illnesses. With the advancement of technology, we will eventually find a substitute for animal testing.

Propaganda: how can it influence you?

The world is full of propaganda created by governments to make the people have the same beliefs. Propaganda is the spreading of ideas, rumors to promote the hate of a group of people or country, or information to promote a certain group of people’s ideas and beliefs. Governments use propaganda to try and brainwash the people of their country to have certain beliefs or to show their dislike for other people or countries. The way they use propaganda to create a bad image of the other is by using posters with messages that encourage the discrimination of the other, they put public broadcasts on the radio or the tv, and they make laws or acts against the minority.

The German government would prohibit the listening of any news that was not in favor of Hitler's regime. The article “twisted tongues” says “ Under the Nazi regime in Germany, it was a crime to listen to the BBC, broadcast from Great Britain, or to read an American newspaper. Germans only had access to the messages Hitler wanted them to hear. During WWII the German government made several laws that prohibited the listening to any media that was against Hitler's beliefs. The German government would keep the people of Germany from knowing the events in the world other than the things that would make the people think Germany was a great and amazing country. On the “US Holocaust Museum” in the german propaganda section, it says “Nazi propaganda often portrayed Jews as engaged in a conspiracy to provoke war. Here, a stereotyped Jew conspires behind the scenes to control the Allied powers, represented by the British, American, and Soviet flags.”.	The German government would use propaganda to make the Germans believe that the Jewish people have large noses and that they were the reason that the Germans lost WWI. The Germans believed that the Jewish people would hide behind the allied powers and they thought of them as cowards. The German people were using propaganda in the newspaper, radio, and even movies to brainwash the German people into believing that Jewish people were disgusting creatures.

throughout WWII the german people would create all forms of media that depict the Jewish people as evil and those movies brainwashed the people of Germany to believe that they were the reason Germany lost WWI . in the “ US national holocaust museum” website in the propaganda section it stated0 “Newspapers in Germany, above all Der Stürmer (The Attacker), printed cartoons that used antisemitic caricatures to depict Jews” the german newspapers would depict the Jewish people to be rats and portray them as evil. they would also create messages and advertisements that would encourage the german people to hurt Jewish people and destroy their stores, cars, and houses. The “US national holocaust museum,” states “Nazi films portrayed Jews as "subhuman" creatures infiltrating Aryan society. For example, The Eternal Jew (1940), directed by Fritz Hippler, portrayed Jews as wandering cultural parasites, consumed by sex and money.” during WWII the germans made movies that portrayed Jews as lesser beings compared to the Aryan race. These movies were broadcasted on tv an shown to the german people to get them to think poorly of jews.Throught hittlers brain washing of the german people it took many years to change their image of the jewish people.

Propaganda is used by the government to create a nation of the same beliefs.Their methods of brainwashing their countries people through propaganda. The german government would create posters, newspaper, radio, and television podcasts that incriminate the jewish people.During WWII propaganda was a great weapon to hittler and his regime it let him voice his beliefs and control a group of people.

Dear President Roosevelt,

From the start of order 9066 me and my family have been witnessing the horrible environment that we are living in. We have been trying our best to make the most out of our time in the internment camps. We understand that you are fearful for the country but even though it is unconstitutional to hold us in these camps with terrible living conditions. You should change order 9066 because this act is unconstitutional and inhumane it is not right to hold a group of people in a camp and treat them differently because of our race. You should at least improve the living conditions of the camps by adding insulation so we aren't dying of heat stroke. Even before we were taken to this camp my class mates treated me diffrently and then once pearl harbor was bombed they blamed it on me.Then on the bus ride people would stare at us and I could hear them speak ill of us for somthing we didn´t do. Mr.President Roosevelt please look at the situation and environment that we are currently in and please consider adding insulation, treating us better , and change the opinion of us the country has. And please don't blame the actions of the Japanese people from across the sea on us.We are not Japanese, we all believe that we are Americans and we will wait in the camps to prove ourselves our country. -Mitsuo Nakano

Into the metaverse analysis

With the advancement of technology, some downsides come along with the thousands of upsides. As people rely on the internet more and more it disconnects us from our real life and our families. With virtual reality becoming easily accessible to the public it creates an opportunity for the workplace and education to advance and give hands-on experience with simulations. But if we keep using technology so lightly it would disconnect us from the real world. The main idea of these stories is split on one side they tell a story that says technology will advance and make your life better. The other side says that technology will corrupt you and disconnect you from the real world.

The story “The Machine Stops” analyses the rise of technology and gives an interpretation of how our lives would be if we let technology use us instead of us using it. In “The machine stops” section 2 The mending apparatus says “You know that we have lost the sense of space. We say ‘space is annihilated,’ but we have annihilated not space, but the sense thereof. We have lost a part of ourselves”. When Kuno is saying this he is showing that the machine had taken away their sense of space and the machine has taken other gifts that nature gave them. For example in section 2 The Mending Apuratus it says “Man is the measure. That was my first lesson. Man’s feet are the measure for distance, his hands are the measure for ownership, his body is the measure for all that is lovable and desirable and strong. Then I went further” This is how Kuno is throwing the machine aside and regaining the gifts that nature gave them.

The excerpts that we read from “ready player 1” show how the virtual world could take over a person's life and make them do things just for a prize. In part 187 it says “And a small army

of Sixers was now pouring through it, swooping into the club on jet packs, firing blaster pistols as they came. Total chaos broke out. Half of the avatars in the club swarmed toward the exit, while the other half drew weapons or began to cast spells, firing laser bolts, bullets, and fireballs back at the invading Sixers. There were more than a hundred of them, all armed to the teeth.” This excerpt proves just how far people are willing to go to gain a prize for themselves and how people are motivated by greed. The Sixers were willing to cause chaos and havoc at an event just to take out the other gunters and also find out some information about the egg. In section 182 it says “I made a big entrance when I arrived in my flying DeLorean, which I’d obtained by completing a Back to the Future quest on the planet Zemeckis. The DeLorean came outfitted with a (non-functioning) flux capacitor, but I’d made several additions to its equipment and appearance. First, I’d installed an artificially intelligent onboard computer named KITT

(purchased in an online auction) into the dashboard, along with a matching red Knight Rider scanner just above the DeLorean’s grill.”This excerpt proves that in the virtual world you can have anything you could ever want or ever do. The fact that you can do anything you'd ever want to do could mean that some people will use this power to terrorize casual players.

The metaverse is being designed in the real world by facebook’s parent company meta and it's gonna revolutionize the education system and the work system. In the article “Meta Opens up Access to its VR Social Platform Horizon Worlds” it says “Meta employees have been making the script blocks at the request of beta testers and that the company eventually plans to release a free library of them. An asset library of objects is also coming. Right now, the coding for script blocks is done entirely in VR, but eventually, Meta plans to let them be built from a desktop computer.” This shows how versatile VR is for learning and the work environment. If this becomes the future of the workplace it could take away the time needed to drive to work so the workers can wake up have breakfast and then put on their helmets and be at their desks in an instant. In “Meta opens up access to its VR social platform Horizon Worlds” it says “Safety is a big concern for a VR environment like Horizon Worlds, where you can easily interact with someone you don’t know. Earlier this month, a beta tester posted in the official Horizon group on Facebook about how her avatar was groped by a stranger. “ with the greatness of VR there are some downsides, unfortunately, the virtual world will still have some problems but there are solutions such as blocking that individual so where they can’t hear, see, or find you, therefore, protecting you from any people bothering you.

In conclusion all of the articles, we have read have changed my view of virtual reality and shown me that if we become too reliant on technology we will become disconnected from the world like how the people in “the machine stops” lost their sense of space and became disconnected from the world around them. And how like in “Ready Player 1” the gunters are disconnected from reality and obsessed with finding the egg and figuring out the clues. But in The metaverse articles that we read they showed how technology and VR could change your life for the better and create a whole new world. Technology is a useful item and VR is even more useful for everyday life but if we use and rely on technology too much we will become disconnected from our relationships with our, friends, family, and coworkers.

In section 0006 it says “I would pull it up in a window on my display and read over my favorite passages to pass the time.Over the past five years, the Almanac had become my bible.” This proves that he is disconnected from the real world and how he continues to study and acknowledge the pieces of media and information that comes from the almanac. And in section 0019 it says, “You aren’t in love with me, Z,” she said. “You don’t even know me.” “Yes I do,” I insisted. “I know you better than I’ve ever known anyone in my entire life.”You only know what I want you to know. You only see what I want you to see.” She placed a hand on her chest. “This isn’t my real body, Wade. Or my real face.” I don’t care! I’m in love with your mind—with the person you are. I couldn’t care less about the packaging. “You’re just saying that,” she said. There was an unsteadiness in her voice. “Trust me. If I ever let you see me in person, you would be repulsed.” Why do you always say that?” “Because I’m hideously deformed. Or I’m a paraplegic. Or I’m actually sixty-three years old. Take your pick.” she says this because they may feel connected to her but they are both disconnected from real life and dont know eachother.
