With many police forces having to increase there response times with other police forces maintaining the fact they are doing well when it comes to response times.
"police are taking up to 30% longer than 2 years ago to react to 999 calls in parts of the country with forces blaming deep spending cuts" https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2013/jul/14/police-longer-999-callout-times

I am going to use many steps to help achieve my aim, this include using a research tool based on opinion of the general public, this include questionnaires and online surveys. I will also conduct detailed research into the whole topic and analyse these facts to support each side. To help with my research aim I will establish my findings using charts and graphs to clearly illustrate my findings which will help me come to establish a suitable conclusion to my research question.

In my research I am going to use it quantitive research this is because there are a lot of numbers that can be used within my research, e.g. to do with how police forces have increased there response times with the level of crime they have to attend to and quantitive data showing how police response times have changed in a 10 year time frame.

The research tool I am going to use in my research is questionnaire. The advantages of this is it’s a practical way of getting research evidence instead of using data from the internet, that you arnt sure is real or not. This will help with my question as it gives a better insight into what people think about police response times in the UK. Another advantage is that questionnaires can gather information from a larger audience making the data more reliable and more in tune with what the general feeling is like within the whole of the uk. However a disadvantage may be that people may be dishonest with there answers so data may not be 100% reliable. Why I am going to use this is that I think it will get the best answer to my research question and will give me a bigger audience to get my information of. Other options are online surveys, the advantages of this is that it takes less time than traditional methods and respondents may be more willing to share more personal information as there is not someone interviewing them. the disadvantages are that they are limited in terms of sampling and there is no interviewer so can lead to less reliable data. Another option is interviewing process, advantages of this is that you can capture verbal and non verbal qs and its a more accurate way of getting information. Disadvantages are that there is a limited sample size as the process can take a long time and the cost of having staff to conduct the interviews.

My sample could be made of different options this include random and non random samples. Random samples are procedure for sampling from a population in which the selection of a sample unit is based on chance and everyone has non-zero probability of being selected. Non random sampling is a sampling technique where the samples are gathered in a process that does not give all the individuals a equal chance of being selected. The sample I will be using is a Non random sample. This is because I will be using a convenience sample as this will allow me to collect a sample convenient to me, in this instance will be the college class. the sample size I will be using is around 20 people and all will be public service students. This is better than asking people of other courses because they will know more about the subject and which will give me more reliable data to use.
