         <description><![CDATA[<div>Science consists of observing the world by watching, listening, and recording information. It is a tool that allows people to observe and map out the process of investigations.&nbsp; I had not thought about science in many years before I started this class. I will continue to grow in my science knowledge because I am more aware of science now and how it is a daily part of life. Science is always going&nbsp;around us and we mostly do not even notice. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Topic 2:  How the scientific method relates to scientific inquiry and how inquiry-based learning impacts student learning? </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The scientific method follows a linear step-by-step process and scientific theory do not follow step-by-step, it is more of thinking outside of the box.&nbsp; Scientific inquiry lets students work with classmates to collaborate and learn communication skills. Students construct their own knowledge which can help to remember the concepts better. I did not have much understanding of the scientific method before this lesson. It was interesting to watch the kids do the food chain during my class observation. And to see them use technology to convert their findings into the food web.  I will continue to use the knowledge that I learned and use it in my future class.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Topic 3: The characteristics of life and what it means to be alive?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>All living organisms are characteristics of life. All living organisms share several key characteristics or functions: order, sensitivity, or response to the environment, reproduction, growth, and development, regulation, homeostasis, and energy processing. When it is all viewed together they define life. Before this class I had never really thought much about the cycle of life and how it works. &nbsp;In everyday life you really never think about the small things in life. But the science of life, revolves around us daily and we just do not realize it. Ns 100 has opened a new interest for me. Before I had not given it much thought but now I want to see what else I can learn and hopefully incorporate it I the future. There is a lot about science you can learn without being in a science class. I have looked at google and youtube and found lots of intriguing information about science.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Topic 4: How microscopic changes have macroscopic effects?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Microscopic properties refer to properties of atoms and macroscopic refers to molecules. Micro can not be seen by the  naked eye, but macro can be seen by the naked eye. Before NS 100 I had not heard of micro or macro properteries before. But found it very interesting during this lesson.  In the Sickle cell video it shows round cells carry more oxygen than the banana shaped ones which are the sickle cell. I had heard of sickle cell before but did not know about the different shaped cells until I saw the video.  I had not much about science but after doing some research and watching videos in NS 100, I am finding out that I am more intrigued by the science world. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Topic 5: How your scientific perspective has changed since the beginning of the semester?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Before starting my Reach journey, it had been 27 years since I had any kind of science lessons. This class has me curious about science now. Even though science is not the subject I want to teach I do think it would be very interesting to get involved with some lessons on it.  I think as a teacher I would try to incorporate mini lessons into my curriculum because at my school students do not get science until they are in the fourth grade. I think there is so much to learn about science that students need to be given the opportunity to learn about science even if it is on a small scale. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Topic 6:  How your experience with NS 100 relates to your apprenticeship classroom?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Unfortunately, I am a literacy para and I teach reading skills with all my classes. I am not in a regular classroom, so I am not involved with any of the science teaching.  I do get to see some of the activities the fifth grade gets to do, once I saw them make a plastic bottle explode with a mento.  I have seen them make slime and salt crystal snowflakes. The kids always seem to like the hands on activities.</div>]]></description>
