I like the way Rufus is portrayed in Parts 1 and 2 of The Fire.

One reason I like Rufus is because he appears to be more racially unbiased in Parts 1 and 2 of The Fire.

This is most evident in the way Rufus interacts with Dana. He is "at ease" with her and even sat down "companionably beside" Dana. When Dana asked him if he thinks she should be someone he is afraid of, he even reassured her and himself by reaching out to touch her with a "sooty hand". This proves to me that Rufus does not distance himself from Dana and in fact interacts with her in an affable and amiable manner, almost as if he were blind to their differences in skin colour. This is a far cry from the hostility that Rufus's parents had for Dana in The River, even though she had saved their son's life!

This idea of Rufus being racially unbiased is further evident when he tells Dana to stay in Alice's mother's house so that he might "see (her) again before" she goes home. This shows me that he actually seeks out opportunities to deepen his companionship with her and it is this sense that Rufus is innately blind to racial differences that makes me feel a sense of respect towards him.

While others may argue that he is vengeful and vindictive person, I argue that he is merely reacting to Tom Weylin's callous attitude towards him and I am still charmed by his unassuming and racially unbiased ways.

I like the way Rufus is portrayed in Parts 1 and 2 of The Fire.

One reason I like Rufus is because he is a very unbias person and does not judge people so quickly.

This is most evident in how he has a decent relationship with Dana Despite the difference of their skin color as she is black. This can be seen from "he sat down companionably beside me on the bed." The use of the word "companionably" is a form of diction to describe how friendly Rufus was to Dana .

This is further evident when he sees through their racial barrier and even looks up to her as a guardian figure . This can be seen from "then I might see you again before you go home." He wants further opportunity to see Dana as he wants to further their relationship.

I feel proud of him as he did not judge Dana for Being of a different race, especially one that was considered and deemed to be an inferior race at the point of time in which Rufus was from. While others may argue that he is very

vengeful and extreme, I feel that he is actually very pure of a person as he has yet to be indoctrinated by the racial stereotypes and biasness which was prevalent at that point of time. The fact that he does not treat Dana inhumanly despite the racial stereotypes at that point of time further proves that.

Despite Dana being shocked that the boy knew about revenge more than she did she asked him why did u set the fire Rufus showed his scars to Dana he said “he said i took money from his desk, and i said i didn’t” Rufus shrugged this shows me that he gave a devil care reaction despite being so vengeful

I feel that Rufus and his father has a toxic relationship and Rufus is vengeful for everything

While others may argue that he is a unbiased to all races , I feel that Rufus is a very vengeful boy and that he is dangerous

If he does not learn that there are consequences to his actions, he will always be on the brink of death and having Dana to be truamatized everytime she teleports back to 1815. futhermore, he is aware of the dangers of playing with fire and sneaking in an intruder but he just simply ignores it and doesnt care about it.

This is further evident in the way he wasn’t remorseful at all for burning down the stables, I feel that if he is this vindictive when he is young, how vindictive would he be when he grows up, thus, I dislike Rufus because of his vindictive and vengeful attitude, While others may argue that he is still young and doesn’t know what he is doing, I feel that even though he is young, he still shouldn’t be so vengeful.

One reason I like Rufus is that is relatively colorblind and racially unbiased. I feel this way as Rufus doesn't know the amount of power he has and how to use it. I can tell this from the line "reached out hesitantly and touched me with a sooty hand". This tells me that Rufas is racially blind he is living in a time where racism is very common and is still very kind and loving towards Dana. I feel that Rufus is perplexed as he doesn't know the power he has,he is relatively colorblind as he doesn't know how much harm he caused but even though he did all these harm there is still a innocent boy. Some may argue that Rufus is a hostile boy as he has caused alot of harm towards the family but Rufus sometimes might be hostile but he is a very loving and caring person as when he acts violently he acts of what happened with his father and how toxic their relationship was.
