Summary:
Space is the most interesting thing for Homo sapiens sapiens, which appeared on the surface on the earth 2.5 million years ago. Us, human have only been on earth a 5% for it life, but we already have theories of how the universe form, expand, works, but we are still exploring dark matter, life after death, and other.

Why did you pick the Book?
To be completely honest, I picked the book because I heard Neil deGrasse Tyson made the book and I love the guy. I was listening to a podcast (can’t remember the name of the podcast) and Mr. Tyson advertised his book in the middle of the podcast. He said his book was about astrophysics but he dumbed down any one could read the book. Once I heard that, I had to read it. It was about astrophysics, which I love, and it was made by Neil deGrasse Tyson, who I also love.

What do you like about your book, so far:
I have finished the book and I like the first part of his book. Yes, he did talk about quirks, dark matter, anti-matter, and even how the universe will end, but it was in the beginning where he talked both the formation of the Universe. He talked about how anti-matter and matter collide with each other and destroyed each other, but there was a ratio of 51:49. It was because of this ratio that 2% of matter remanded, which made the universe we live in today. He also talked about how the universe in the beginning was a big ball of heat, but as it expanded it expand it cooled down and formed atoms. I don’t why, but I have a little obsession with the beginning of the universe and the string theory, so when he mentioned this in the start of the book, I flipped.

Summary:
The book tells the story form the perspective of two characters, Day and June. Day, a low life living in the dumps trying to steal a cure of the plague to save one his brother. June is a prodigy, she got a perfect score on the social test and is trying to hunt Day, because she thinks he killed his brother.

Why did I pick the book:

To be honest, I picked the book because it had a cool cover and title. Plus, the first few pages were interesting and I decided not to drop the book. I also pick the book because it seemed like the most interesting dystopian book in Ms. Terry’s collection.

What do I like so far:

For right now, my favorite part is the mystery. In the book it stated the Day killed Junes brother, but in the part that he killed him, Day throw the knife at his shoulder, so he does not cause major injuries. I love how I know that and June doesn’t. I just want to see what her expression would be, when she figures out that Day that not kill her brother. Right now, June is eager to just kill him and that just gets me more hyped for the moment when June realizes the truth. Another thing that intrigues me is that, who is stronger. They stress that June is a prodigy and is great that everything, but Day has also one amazing things in the book, so who would defeat who. Will June be able to kill Day, or would Day be able to defeat June and take the sure.

Summary:

June gets in a disguise and head to the streets to find day. She gets in a fight and Day saves her. In the few days that Day and June are together they full in love, but June still tell Thomas that she found Day. Thomas came to the scene and killed his mother, while arresting day.

Why I am Still Reading The Book:

There are many reasons that I am still reading the book, but the main reason is because of drama/plot. I love the idea that the two main characters hate each other guts, then love each other, and finally hating themselves for meeting each other. We the audience also just now learned days real name, Danial. For some reason I thought that Days was his real name, so it was surprising for me too, that Day wasn’t his real name.

What do I like so far:

Like I stated before, my favorite part for right now is that the two main characters fell in love with each other. Them falling in love was not what I was expecting. June arrested Day, but now I am confused if she will save him or let him die. It will be more surprising for me if she left him for dead, because they fell in love and it would be predictable if she saved him out of love. If she does save him, then well I may not read the next book in the series, but I will sill finish this book.

Summary:
Day is tortured and sentenced to death in four days. June does some research and finds out Day did not kill her brother, and he also got a perfect score on the social test, not a 657, which the government has stated. June is now trying to help Day.

Why I am Still Reading the Book:
I still have not put down the book because I don't know what is going to happen in the end. In the book, there are many twists and turn, that I don't know what to expect. For example, At the beginning of the book Day and June did hate each other, but also didn't like each other. In the middle of the book, The straight out hated each, because June believed that Day killed his brother, but later they loved each other because they met. But wait there more, they again went into to the first sage, and lastly, they love each other again. With all this drama I don't know what to expect.

What do I like so far:
The thing that I like the most so far is is that June is slowly discovering the problems in her society. She first learns that Day got a perfect score on the test, and then she determines that the plague was created by the government. Lastly, she discovers that Day didn't kill her brother, but it was Thomas, her new legal guardian. With all these discoveries, the reader/I don't know what June will do next, and that is what I like about a Book. I want a book to have many twist and turns.

First, I almost done with the book and I just want to finish it. I have invested almost three week for this book, so I don’t matter if I like or not, I just want to conclude it. Second, I want to see how it will panel out in the end. The story right now is predictable, June will help Day escape and with the rebels they will defeat the government, but I am hoping for a twist, that is why I am reading the book.

What do I like so far:

The main thing that I like so far is the character development. Metia, Junes older brother dead in the beginning of the novel, but the audience still get information about him. We learn how caring he was to June. He raised her and helped her through life. Metia also new about the horrible things that the government was doing. I think that he dead because of this. I believe that the government figured out that he was investigating them and wanted him dead before he found out to much. I honestly believe that he is still alive and just hiding form the government.

Summary:

Day’s execution date is moved up and June is scrambling around to help him escape because she didn’t expect this. She start helping Day escape when the rebels launch their attack on the capital. She helped Day and his brother John escape, but there were too late and John had to sacrifice himself to let June an John escape, now they are on the run.

What three things I liked about the book:

I many just like the character development in the book. June and Day hated each other guts in the beginning, but as the story continued they loved it other. This is what I like to see in the book, when the main character do a full 180 on their point of view. The second most thing that I liked about the book is, that there were two main characters. I could see both sides of the world through the two characters one, not just one side, which most books do. The third most thing that I liked about the book is the, plot twist. These plot twist really spiced up the story adding more pressure on June to help Day.

Who would you recommend it to:

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes reading dystopian books. Legend has almost all the key dystopian plot points, the government is bad, the main character rebels against the main character, and the main character wins in the end. These are the key high points of a dystopian book, so any dystopian reader would love this book. I would also recommend this book who likes to see a lot of character devolvement because both the main characters make a 180 throughout the book.

There they meet Kaede again, and they meet Razor the leader of the patriots. Razor helps them in exchange that they join the patriots. He tells them how they can help the patriots and how the patriots work.

Why I am still reading the book:

I am mainly still reading the book because it is the continuation of the book, Legend. Prodigy still has the two main characters, Day and June, instead of having one. Besides being the sequel of the book legend, I am mainly reading the book because of the two main character, which helps the audience see both sides of the story. Day is a rebel of the society and trust other rebels, while June still has the mind set of not trusting other rebels, aka the patriots, Together one can decide for themselves who is good guy/bad guy, by picking the perspective that they like the most.

What do I like so far:

I main thing that I like so fair the compete 180 every character took from the book Legend. Day trust other people know. In the past he never trusted the patriots, but know he is going to them to ask for help. June was a military solider, but know she is helping the patriots. Lastly, the people in the society itself fear/trusted the government, but know since there leader is dead they to change, and lot of them trust Day because he rebelled against the government.

She gets captured by Thomas and learns that he didn’t wanted to kill her brother, but was forced to. Day and Kaede also sneak into the battle plane to help June out.

Why I am still reading the Book:

I am still reading the book because of the plot twists and the new background information learning in the sequel. First of all, Thomas is not the bad guy, but was forced to kill Metias. Thomas not being bad actually surprised me because throughout the book legend, Thomas was treated as a horrible person and didn’t have any kindness, but that is false. I learned that whatever Thomas was doing in the previous book, looked evil on the surface, but he was actually trying to help June. Secondly, the reader/I learned about the history of Metias and Thomas. They used to be best friends and it was because of Metias that Thomas got a good source on the social placement exam. All of these new information helps the reader/I sympathize with Thomas and make him more human-like.

What do I like so far:

I like the idea of June going back to the government because I want to see what will happen. She helped Day(number one most wanted criminal ) escaped, so it would be interesting to see what punishment she will get and how Thomas will try to get her out of it. I personal think that no charges will be pushed against her because she is the prodigy of the government. I just have to read on to see what will happen.

Day and Tess have a argument and in the end, Tess storms out the room thinking that Day does not like her at All.

Why I am still reading the book:

I am still reading the book because of the plot twists. I never thought that Tess liked Day because they acted like siblings and Day was obviously was in love with June. I was also very surprised about the fight that Day and Tess. In the book Tess acted and was treated like one of the most nicest person in the world, so being mad at Day and getting jealous of Junes was a shock; it was like if a big bad bully suddenly started to act nice and be helpful out of no were. I also like the book because I don’t know what is going to happen next. June trusted Razor (the patriot leader), but after meeting the elector, she doesn’t know what to think. I believe that she will help the elector, but anything can happen.

What do I like so far:

The main thing that I like so far is the mystery.

Summary:

June is tested with a lie detector, to make sure she is tell the truth. The lie detector states that all of Junes statements were true, so the elector tell her more of his plan. Later that night, Tess already forgave's Day and Day truly learned his mission.

Why I am still reading the book:

I am still reading the book because of the drama. Day is in love with June, Tess is in love with Day, and June is slowing liking the Elector, this love triangle is, in my opinion making the story more interesting. I am always predicting who will get into a fights and I can't help to find out who will get together in the end of the story. I personally thing it would be June with Day, and the Elector and Tess will just be single. In general I am still reading the book because i want to know who will get together at the end of the story.

What do I like so far:

The main thing I like so far is the lack of information given to the reader. The reader is told that the Elector is bad, but when June meets him, he acts like a good guy. On one side the patriots are saying the government/elector is bad, and on the other side the Elector/government is stating that the patriots are bad. With the lack of information, the reader decides who is the good guy, which I like to see in a book like this, with a lot of drama.

Prodigy finished, The Great Gatsby finished, My Sister's Keeper finished: Week Eleven(12/9/2018 )

How does it fit into the reading Bingo: (Prodigy)
This fits into the (read a book that is a sequel) slot. Prodigy is the sequel of the book, Legend. It continues the story where it left off in Legend. It has almost the same characters as legends, same moral ideology, and the same drama that I love. The tension with Tess, June, and Day has increased because now Anden (the president) is in love with June. All and all, it is a sequel to Legend and continues the story.
What three things I liked about the book:

What three things I liked about the book:
The main things that I liked about the book was the continuation of Legend. I fell in love with the characters and the many tensions between them, so I just wanted to read more. The second main things that in liked about the book was the many plot twits. No one(including me) expected the new elector(Anden) to be the good guy. I was so confused/surprised to learn that Razor(the patriot's leader) was the bad guy, working for the republic and Anden was the one to fight the republic. AND don't get me started on Day's death, it came out of no where. It was never hinted that Day had brain problems, so that was a complete shock. The last main thing that I liked was the tension. I Day was in love with June but was deading, so he had to let her go. June was in love with Day, so she was confused why Day dumped her. Anden was in love with June and asked her to be his right-hand man/women. Lastly, Tess was in love with Day. All of these love triangles was the reason that I picked up the book every day. I wanted to learn who will end up with who.

Who would you recommend it to:
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes reading dystopian novels. Prodigy has almost all the critical dystopian plot points, the government is terrible, the leading character rebels against the main character, and the main character wins at the end (ish- Day does die, and Anden was the good guy, but it still hits the high points). These are the key high points of a dystopian book so that any dystopian reader would love this book. I would also recommend this book who likes to see a LOT of character development because both the main characters make a 180 throughout the book.

How does it fit into the reading Bingo: (The Great Gatsby)
The Great Gatsby fits into the bingo sheet because it is an AP book off the Booklist. It is one of the oldest and best literature on the AP book list, so it perfectly fits into the slot.

What three things I liked about the book:
The main thing that I love about the book is that Nick sets himself as the narrator and author of the novel from the beginning. He indirectly states that the story will be told from his perspective and the readers get to see his past /personal experience with Gatsby. The second main thing that I like about the story is the drama. From the beginning, the readers learn that Tom is having an affair and almost every character knows. Later on, Daisy and Gatsby have a relationship, which causes a fight with Gatsby and Tom. This drama spices the story up for me. Lastly, the third main thing that I liked about the story was the mystery behind Gatsby. I thought that Gatsby a (born) rich person who just acted arrogantly, with somewhat of a god complex, but as the story continued, I was shocked to find out that Gatsby was a dirt-poor farmer.

Who would you recommend it to:
I would recommend this book to any who loves a thriller/mystery book with lots a drama because that's all what "The Great Gatsby is." It is a great story, so I would recommend to ANYONE because I think almost anyone would like, but I have to pick a specific type of people, I would recommend it to anyone who loves drama.

How does it fit into the reading Bingo: (My Sister's Keeper)
My Sister's Keeper fits into the slot of (read a book published in the year you were born). My Sister Keeper was released in 2002(depend on what source you look at), which is around my birth date, 12/12/2002.

What three things I liked about the book:
The main thing that I liked about the book was the drama with Anna and her mother, Sara. Sara was mad at her but at the same loved her because she is her daughter. This interesting relationship made the whole story more exciting because I/the reader did know what their limits were and what would happen next. The second main thing that I liked about the book was the mystery/run on joke about Campbell's dog. This was not a central point/part of the book, but I was very invested in the dog and REALLY wanted to know its real purpose of his dog. The third main thing that I liked about the book was the end. I love it when books have a massive plot twist, and the ending was just that. Anna died, and Kate lived

Who would you recommend it to:
I honestly would not recommend this book to any because of ending. Yes, I LOVE the ending, but I know for sure MANY people would hate because it is not a happy ending and that the plot twist came out of know where.

The Book Thief (finished), Excelsior!: The Amazing Life of Stan Lee (finished): Week Twelve (12/16/2018)

How does it fit into the reading Bingo: (The Book Theif)
The Book Theif fits into the bingo sheet because it has over 500 pages. The book as precisely 584 pages, which is counting the prologue.

What three things I liked about the book:
The main thing that I like about the book was the character development. Liesel Meminger, the main character does a complete 180 throughout the story. At the beginning of the book, she was angry and was a distrusting character. Near the end of the book, she had an active personal moral code and profoundly loves her parents and friends. Near, in the end, she was also not hesitant to compromise herself to enforce her love with her family. The second main thing that liked about the book was the personification of death itself. The novel treated death as a spectator and what I noticed was that he changed through the story too. In the beginning, death acted initially sarcastic, with a darkly twisted sense of humor, but near the end of the book, Death expressed remorse about having to collect so many souls. The third main thing that I liked about the book was realistic deaths. I know that sound stupid, but a lot of book/movies/T.V. have there set in a war, but no one dies, which really Irritates me.

Who would you recommend it to:
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes tense/thriller books because the book had me on my feet some of the moment, like when their town was bombed. All and all, I would give this book a 9.1 out of 10.

How does it fit into the reading Bingo: (Excelsior!: The Amazing Life of Stan Lee) Excelsior!: The Amazing Life of Stan Lee, fits into the bonus bingo sheet because it was an autobiography. Stan Lee is also one of my most favorite public figures because how much he contributed to the comic book community, and I LOVE COMIC BOOKS.
.

What three things I liked about the book:
The main thing that I like about the book was how he talked about the comition between DC and Marvel. Within the book he talked about how Marvel is much better because of many things like better movies, DC has gone bankrupt, and etc. I am personally a DC fan, so I was interested in his take on the competition and what is the other sides argument. The second main thing that I LOVED about the book was that Stan Lee gave other people credit. I hate it when people say that Stan Lee made this Ironman, Thor, Fantastic Four, Doctor Strange, and others because he did not make those characters alone, a lot of other people help him, like Jack Kirby and Jeff Johns. The third main thing that I like about the book was how honest Stan Lee was. He stated that early on he hated marvel and wanted to leave, but his wife convinced him to stay. If I was in Stan Lee's position, I wouldn't have told anyone that because that can hurt his connection with the company.

Who would you recommend it to:
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes superheroes because Stan Lee is the god of superheroes. He created many popular heroes like Spiderman, Thor, Hulk, etc. He is so much involved in the comic book community that his book deserves a read.

Summary:
Wade Watts is introduced as the main character of the story. He lives in 2045, a dystopian world. His world is so messed up that people live the majority of his life in the OASIS( a virtuality world). In the world, the owner of OASIS has died and left an easter egg in his game, which if found would give that person full ownership of his game. Wade thinks he has found the first clue to the easter egg.

Why I am still reading the Book:
I am mainly still reading the book because of all the kind comments my friends are saying about the book. I have yet to hear a bad comment, except that the opening is slow, which I agree with. I am also still reading the book because I love the concept that has been set in place within the book. The is the first time I am reading a book that takes place in a virtuality world and most likely than not the ending is going to be that Wade get the easter egg, but I am not reading the book for the ending but how he gets there in this new setting, i.e.(the virtual world)

What do I like so far:
The main thing I like the book so far is the stereotypical protagonist. In the book Wade Watts is poor, lost his parents, and has nothing going for him, all this is every superhero ever origin story, but something about makes it different. Maybe the "different" is the virtuality, perhaps not. Its like the author was being a parody of the origin stories of superheroes because even the name, Wade Watts sound like a superhero name like Peter Parkour, Clerk Kent, and Guy Gardner.

Ready Player One: This was the first book I decided to read, because of it being placed in a future time where virtual reality is bigger than the real world. I found this very interesting because it covers many of today's problems. Some being us more reliant on technology than real life, and another of them taking over our lives. The story is about Wade Watt an eighteen-year-old, on a mission to get the easter eggs hidden in the game by the creator, whoever gets all of them gets control over the game. He wins, but throughout the book, you see how he solves some of the modern day problems. One being we use technology over our own social life. Wade didn't have any real-life friends, only the ones in the OASIS, the video game. That is why once he took control he closed the game two days out of the week so people would have real-life social interaction. You can see this in today's world with companies like Apple launching features such as Screen time on the iPhone to help promote people to be on there phones less. I agree with this, because yes technology is a useful tool, but it shouldn't center our entire life.

Poke the Box: I decided to read this book because of the issue it addresses. It talks about we don't try new things, and instead of entirely trying them we should poke the box a little so we won't have anything to lose. It first goes over all the issues people make when they say they can't try something new and address them. For example, I always say I have no time, but instead of entirely doing something new the book suggests we take baby steps. Also, another is us just not knowing the different things, and for us to get exposed, we have to get out of our schedule. Me being students thought we couldn't do this, but false. We have to manage our time, and then anything is possible. I feel everyone should read this book because it will give you a new perspective and help everyone improve.

The Beach House: I decided to read this book because it was written the year I was born and had an attractive cover. The book is about Jack Mullen who is a driven student of the law. His brother Peter body is found on the beach. Jack knows the drowning was no accident, but someone's unlimited power and money have bought the cops, the judges, the system. Now Jack is learning a lesson in justice he never got in law school, how to beat the billionaires. This issue connects to a lot of real-world problems, with people with money and power abusing their power thinking they can get away with anything. I've seen this first hand when I went to a summer camp in California. The people at this summer camp were well a little more high class than me, all their parents had connections and money to get them into it, but I was there because of a scholarship I won. I saw them do all these bad things and saying it doesn't matter if we get caught our parents will cover it up. Just like in the book these peoples actions had no consequences, and it helps uncover that for the world to see.

Harriet the Spy: I decided to read book because of how it connects to the my real life and my LD debate topic I was researching last month. The book is about a young girl named Harriet who writes every little thing shes into a notebook because she wants to become a writer. One day her classmates who she writes about brutally honest read her comments in the notebook and get extremely hurt. Now she thought she did nothing wrong, but she understands throughout the book that some things are a little personal and sensitive to others. Now this connects to debate because we are discussing which one to value more the right to know or privacy of candidates. Should we know every little detail or should we let them keep some things secret? We see the consequences of getting the truth, but we also look at the results of hiding things. This scenario becomes a substantial moral mess, what does one do? I think there is no right answer as both have undermined effects, and you will only know if you go with one or the other. This book helps a kid understand what to do in certain situations. That may be why it was banned because it was said to set a bad example for children, supposedly encouraging them to spy, lie, and swear.

Candide: I decided to read the book because how the optimistic theme relates to my original oratory debate speech. Candide is about a individual named Candide, who is the illegitimate nephew of a German baron. He grows up in the baron’s castle under the tutelage of the scholar Pangloss, who teaches him that this world is “the best of all possible worlds. After falling in love with the baron's daughter, his life is turned upside down. He is kicked out of the castle and his life slowly started cracking in front of him. He is beaten, wittiness's horrible events, sees Pangloss die, and etc, but at the end he is still optimistic. This relates to my debate speech because it is about the side effect of optimism. I talk about how optimism in the past was used by governments to control their there socialites, like the USSR. I also talk about how having an optimistic mind can harm you in the future. Candide was optimistic throughout his whole story and it was because of his optimism that he got into many problems. His life would have been easier if he was not a optimistic.

Divergent: Divergent. the first book of the Divergent series is written by Veronica Roth. It is an adventuresome science-fiction story and the tale of a girl named Beatrice (Tris) Prior. Beatrice lives in a civilization which is divided into five different fractions, based on five distinct characters. Tris thought she did not belong to any of the five parties. She thought she was separate from others. Tris goes through a lot of difficulties, hard-core training and life-risking missions throughout the book. She is also identified with a unique characteristic. She displays attributes of a leader, and she is also selfless and lacks fear even though she came from the Abnegation Faction, who are known for their purity and 'no pride' behavior. Her character is captivating. In the beginning, she was acknowledged as a soft, delicate girl and towards the end, she transforms into a strong warrior. The Book's title 'Divergent' also has a lot of background meaning to it, which is unveiled throughout the novel. After reading Divergent, it would be difficult not to read the next books of the series, Insurgent and then Allegiant as the experience continues. Overall, this novel is perfect for those who prefer experience, adore characters that take chances, and pleasure in reveali

Animal Farm is not just a novel of a group of animals who rebel against their human rulers; it is the story of every revolution, all leader who claims to be a savior, every politician who insists he will bring about a change, that others have been reluctant to do. It is the traditional story of the human desire for power, as the end all and be all for those who crave it. And the obedience of rights and privileges by those, who choose to heed it and accept it, in hopes of a greater tomorrow. After all, all and every revolution seems to begin with a genuine and heartfelt need for a change, led by obviously genuine and empathetic heads, giving up every bit of their life for the improvement of the public at great and yet, end up both failing miserably and thus leading to even higher miseries or finishing with the victory of the revolution and replacement of one dictator, with another even more offensive and cruel! The beauty of Animal Farm is, George Orwell has directed to convey all this within a story of farm animals of Manor Farm, who rebel against the human cruelty and take command of their future and become free from tyranny. Little do they know, they are merely replacing their human leaders with pigs, who at initial claim to be unwilling leaders of the reconstruction. And then by showcasing their comprehension and knowledge to read and write, become the de facto directors of the farm. And then, little by little, they get rid of any semblance of a democratic civilization and reinstate it with a tyranny based on the fear of outsiders invading the ranch and animals within, conspiring with the outsiders to cause harm to everyone at the farm.

The book is an exhaustive look at some patients who had encephalitis lethargica, a flu-like illness which had a global presence in the early 20th c., then seemed to vanish into the ether. Victims who had it in their old lives appeared to go into a trance-like (or as Sacks sometimes called it, Parkinsonian) status and became strains on their families. Oliver Sacks' communication with them was typically after many years had passed, and they had been committed to the clinic where he worked. The use of L-Dopa was starting as a treatment for this kind of sickness, and Dr. Sacks began to test with it on these patients. As a result, but on an individualistic explanation, they would "awaken" from their coma, and be able to operate once again as capable, intelligent and self-governing, even joyful, human beings. This would serve for a while before the medicine would either stop acting or have some harmful effect on the patients, all of which Dr. Sacks reports in the book. One of the interesting features of the story is how Sacks explains the patients' opinions about their life experience. Some are terrified that they went to sleep at, say, age ten, and awakened up much older. Others are thankful they had a chance to remain alive again. Some have a vision of being in the vegetative phase; others don't. The way their parents interact with them upon their renewal is also informative and varied; some are ecstatic, others frightened, still others downright angry.

This is a beautiful book: the author conveys brilliantly the experience of being a child refugee from Africa who comes to Minnesota after experiencing great loss in his young life from war in Sudan. I felt the wonder, fear, optimism , sadness and hope of the main character Kek as he walked forward into his new country. This I attribute to the author’s ability to express profound emotion in few words. She just gets it as far as touching on the human spirit. It helped me understand what that experience (as a refugee)must be like. While mourning and working through the pain of loss, Kek triumphed by forming new relationships with people and the beloved cow he was a caretaker for. Kek made a new beginning each day without really knowing how to, but this was so inspiring to me. A young sweet human just kind of figuring it out as he went. And never losing his hope. I highly recommend this book!!

Acquiring to read about a place and time that I've never read about before is such a treat. The early 15th century Ottoman Empire was quite new to me, and tying in the myth of Vlad the Impaler with a gender bent twist was pretty irresistible. Lada and Radu are the descendants of Vlad Dragwlya, a contender for worst father ever. He gives his children to the Sultan in exchange for defending his homeland's borders, and so the kids grow up under the weak protection of their one friend, Mehmed, the sultan's third descendant. While Lada is Arya Stark in fifth seasonof Game of Thrones, Radu is the softer-hearted sibling. Still, it's not a case of Lada = bad and Radu = good; they both make terrible choices. You are cheering them on one minute and facepalm'ing the next. Radu has converted to Islam and made the castle his home while Lada dreams of returning to Wallachia. Both of them are devoted to Mehmed, but at a cost. This world is entirely fascinating, one of ever-expanding empire and political intrigue. It's a world where women have to learn how to survive, even if it means sacrificing their freedom or goals; the politics of the harem were fascinating!
