George thinks she is a “tart” and a “jailbait” and warns Lennie to stay away from her even though she didn’t do anything wrong.

QUOTES SHOWING SEXISM AGAINST CURLEY’S WIFE
“Married 2 weeks and got the eye?

In the last chapter before curley’s wife gets killed she tells Lennie that she is sick of being treated with disrespect and that she isn’t doing anyone any harm. Also she says that nobody cares how she lives. She goes on to say that she could of got in a show but her mother wouldn’t let her. She says again that she was asked to be in a movie and that she was a natural. But she never got a letter and she always thought that her mam stole it.

so she said that she married curley and then says “I dont like Curley. He ain’t a nice fella”. This shows that she could have had a brilliant life but she was stook with Curley at the barn house not aloud to talk to anyone. She could have made somethimg of herself.

Curley’s wife is referred to as an object/possession of Curley’s.I have clear evidence of this when she states that she is sick of tired of being disrespected and being forced to stay at home, not being allowed to speak to anyone and not being allowed to express her feelings. Also before her tragic death she explains to Lennie about her miserable life and wishes her mother would have let her go with the director to be an actress.

She clearly states that Curley treats her with disrespect and he doesn’t allow her to express herself and she really dislikes him for that.

Another reason I’ve got for saying that everyone is sexist towards her is when she walks into a room to talk to someone she is always referred to as a ‘female dog’. Which shows the lack of respect people show towards her.

I also feel rather sad for her the reason for that is that she doesn’t have anyone to talk to, if she walks into a room everyone tells her to go home.

Another reason I have for saying that people where disrespectful towards her is when she would wear a nice outfit people would call her a ‘tramp’.

Curley’s wife’s dream is unreachable now because her mother thought that she wouldn’t do well as an actor and told her to go find a man to live. Personally I think she would have been a rather good actress. I also think that it is very sad that everyone doubts her abilities in doing jobs and living a independent life.

The men don’t talk to Curley’s wife because she is a woman. This is both sexist and discriminative. She can only talk to Lennie because he is naive. Curley’s wife can’t make decisions for herself because the men on the ranch have the power. The men tell her to go home and Curley doesn’t even care for his own wife. George is told that she’s a “tart” and he just assumes that’s true and tells Lennie not to go near her even though he (Lennie) fancies her. Nobody treats her as a person because she’s a woman. This shows the sexism in the novel “Of Mice and Men”.
