In the 6th part of the poem she repeats the sentence “you may” three times but then begins the next sentence with “but”. She wants to say that even tho she had a hard past, she became a strong and independent woman, who seems like she doesn’t really care about other people’s opinions anymore.

Maya wanted everyone to know that no matter how hard they tried knocking her down she was gonna get right back up and rise and prove to everyone that she is stronger. She spoke strong words through the poem. Maya has become a stronger woman through years and years of hurt we felt like, and she was never gonna let anyone feel that way again, nobody was gonna make her feel less of she she is, or they made her feel in the past.

The examples she used are dealing with the sun and moon rising, the stars, the tides, etc. These all rise at a certain time of day, everyday.
