1. Why does Prospero forgive the conspirators?

I believe that Prospero only forgave his conspirators because he wanted political power. The situation he created put him in control of every and all events. this control allowed him the ability to regain what he lost and maybe even more. He forgave them because he knew how everything was going to span out in the end. He forgives them because he got to mess with their lives like they messed with his. He forgave them because he finished playing around with his plan. He finished, had his fun and was ready to "forgive" them. He was also motivated by the newly engaged couple to forgive his brother and those who wronged him. He forgives them because he knows how in love Ferdinand and Miranda are.

He knows his power and its ability. he also shows a sense of bittersweet because he knows what is going to happen, he knows that he will be giving up his magic and go back with everyone to Naples and then Milan. His monologue is at first listing what he has completed and how he achieved them through his magic. After, he promises to give up his magic and get rid of his staff.

Prospero's choice to forgive shows how holding onto grudges does nothing. His choice to forgive helps display the theme of forgiveness because he overlooks the wrongs that have been done to him. He focuses on the benefits that come with forgiving them. He doesn't allow what happened in the past to completely over take him. His choice to stop with his magic and allow everything to return to normal shows how his forgiveness represents his renewal through his choice to forgive.
