Written in bone- Sally Walker and the anthropologist (Hudgens Smith.)

Sally Walker is a female who i assume is within higher middle social class, the anthropologists are also of higher social class.

I can tell that the anthropologists are very devoted to what they do, therefore putting the reader into a devoted and curious position.

written in bone - Sally Walker is aiming to write in bone to the readers (us). The speaker doesn’t exactly specify an audience but she doesn’t have to. We already understand that she’s writing this text to inform us. Assumptions that I can make about the readers (us) is that we’re looking to inform ourselves about bones. That’s why we’re reading it right?

Written in bone - The topic of Written in bone is the discovery and investigation of JR1225B and other human remains in Jamestown, Virginia. The Author presents this pretty soon into the book and it’s not very hard to learn what the subject is. We as the reader do not have to make an inference.

The time is 1607, and it takes place in Virginia. The situation is George Percy is trying to establish Jamestown in Virginia. He is writing to King James about this. The event and context is the exploration and establishment of Jamestown.

Written in Bone

It was a hot summer day in 2005. The archeologists were in Jamestown, Virginia. The situation that prompted the writing is the speakers want to share the discoveries that they made and things about the old times Jamestown. The event is archeologists doing their job. The context is archeologists trying to find Jamestown.

The purpose is to inform King James about the development of the plantation that’s being established in Virginia. The author may have wanted the audience (King James I) to think that he did a good job, but this is just a guess. The message is updates on the new plantation.

Written in Bone

The purpose is to teach the audience of the discoveries that the archeologists made in Jamestown. The goal is to make more people know about it, since many archeologists have forgotten about Jamestown and passed it up. The author wanted the audience to be informed as a result of the informational book.

The speaker’s tone is confident and sure that he will be able to establish and find the right place for Jamestown. The author seems to be biased against the natives, calling them “savages”. Some details that “tells” the author’s feelings are the use of strong words, such as one I already mentioned, “savages”. The syntax seems to have a sort of confident tone, causing the writing to seem very sure about what he is doing. I would probably read it in a confident and dramatic voice if I were the author.

The speakers are also pretty confident and have an informational tone. They seem to be determined to figure out what there is in Jamestown. They also seem to be inspired to see what they might find. They seem to be neutral about the topic. Some details that “tells” what the author feels about the topic is how there are not many exclamation or question marks, showing that this is intended to be an informational text. The images further show how this is informational text, by the images being diagrams or real life photos of their discoveries rather than bright drawings. I would probably read it in a low energy voice, not really having any pitch changes in my voice if I were the author.

Samuel was influenced by Collin and the other kids at the orphanage after they told him that he and everyone else on their way to Virginia would die. They learned this information from the Reverend.

The main idea of chapter 4 is about finding and identifying specific details about the captain’s body.

After they had spent their Arrows, and felt the sharpness of our shot, they retired into the Woods with a great noise, and so left us. ”

compare/contrast

Last chapter Captain Smith was feeling very high and mighty at the end of chapter 23. He had just gotten back from a ceremony and was feeling excited. In chapter 24 he feels confused and scared after he gets badly burned. He now has to move back to England.

• Samuel thinks that the beads that Captain Smith gave him would cause the Native Americans to want to trade with the settlers.

• Samuel was worried that the native americans didn't want him to be there, and now he has even more problems

The Gentlemen's POV of the natives doesn’t really change much. Besides all that Captain Smith has done to connect with the natives they still believe the natives are trying to trick and conceive the settlers. They wouldn’t know any better since they’re only sitting inside and not interacting with the natives at all.
