Our optimum pH was at 3. Because it was the shortest amount of time it took to break down all the starch into its monosaccharides. This is because we would think that our body’s average pH is 7, this is most probably because it is produced in the mouth, in our mouth there is nothing very acidic so it should be neutral, but because it goes into our stomach through our oesophagus. It has to be alkaline so it can’t hurt us and creates the neutralisation reaction. If we want to improve this experiment, we should first increase the possible amount of time we can measure. With only one spotting tile, we can only measure 4 minutes at maximum, some of these reactions took longer than 4 minutes to complete.

1. 3
2. We were expecting 7 to be the optimum as the pH in the mouth is generally neutral
3. Accuracy whilst pouring, it would be better if we used some measuring cylinders instead.

1. Optimum pH was 3
2. It is strange because you'd think the pH should be neutral, as saliva is supposed be neutral, so you'd think it would be 7 pH.
3. Making sure you use a stopwatch that sounds every 20 seconds maybe, as we would be delayed a few seconds sometimes because we didn't realize.

1. The optimum pH was 3.
2. This is quite surprising as the pH of the mouth where amylase breaks down starch is around 7. Why is this?
3. One error would be making sure to extract the amylase solution from the test tube on time. Also, making sure that all iodine drops were of equal amount. And improvement might be to test more pH levels between the one we did in order to get an image of the bigger picture.
