Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the lungs that involves narrowing and swelling of the airways, or bronchi. People with asthmas have overly reactive airways that are swollen, or inflamed even without symptoms. During an asthma episode, the airways narrow and swell even more. This makes it difficult to move air in and out of the lungs. Symptoms of asthma episode are wheezing, coughing and difficulty in breathing and chest tightness.

An allergy is an abnormal sensitivity to a specific substance that most people find harmless. The substance that causes the allergy is called an allergen. An allergic reaction occurs when the body’s immune system responds to a harmless allergen. Allergies often run in families and children can grow out of them. In children, allergies can produce hay fever, asthma, eczema, hives, conjunctivitis and sometimes a sever, possibly life threatening allergic reaction called anaphylaxis.

Relation of Asthma & Allergies

Many people with asthma have an allergy that triggers episodes. Allergy induced asthma attacks are brought on by allergy to airborne particles, and occasionally to food or medications. Most triggers of asthma episodes are the allergies that people have. These such allergens are dust mites, medication, food, pollen and pets. Today you find more allergy induced asthma patients than those with just asthma. Asthma and allergy both have the same triggers so they go hand in hand.

Difference in Asthma now & 1900

In the 1900s the evidence of asthma was unknown but over the decades it has increased. Almost 5,000 people are killed from asthma with children being the most. The many changes in our environment has not only causes many more pollutants but caused the increase in triggers for asthma. Another thing is the way the climate and weather has changed significantly over the decades. When you think of the way the weather and environment was in the 1900s and the way it is now you understand why the asthma and allergies have increased

Country Asthma least prevalent

From my research the places in the world that asthma is least prevalent are Western countries like Europe, Asia and Central America. I think that these countries have the least prevalence of asthma because of their environment. They are not exposed to as much industrial pollutants or environmental changes as other countries.
