“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John denies being the Messiah when people think he is the one that the people speak of as the Messiah, Elijah, and the Prophet. John testifies that Jesus is God’s Chosen One. John’s disciples follow Jesus. Jesus leaves for Galilee and calls for Philip and Nathanael.

John first covers the story about teaching Nicodemus, where the lesson is that one must be reborn to enter the Kingdom of God. One must have faith in order for this to happen, and accept the Word into their hearts. The following story covers John the Baptist testifying that he is not the Messiah, but rather Jesus is, and His gifts are given to Him from heaven.

Jesus talks with a Samaritan woman about wanting a drink from a well while his disciples are in town buying food. He talks about how He can make those in heaven never thirst again. He declares himself the Messiah to the woman. The disciples return and the woman tells the town about Jesus’ prophetic words. He knew about her past husbands before she could even hint at something like that, and the town became excited at the prospect of Jesus being the Messiah. Jesus then returns to Galilee and heals and official’s son. The official later realizes that the healing happened as soon as they believed Him, and with that the chapter ends.

Jesus goes to Jerusalem and heals on the Sabbath. Jewish leaders begin to persecute Jesus for healing on the Sabbath and Jesus claims to be the son of God which makes the Jewish leaders want to kill him. Jesus then explains that he holds the authority as the Son of Man. Testifies for himself that the things that God had sent him to do testify that God has sent him. Jesus then explains that they do not believe that Jesus is the son of God regardless of his doings, and that they won’t accept him as the son of God but would accept someone who claims to be God.
