While he decided to steal them, a flock a crows sang and claimed these cows to be Apollo's. Hermes satisfied the cows with grass, and swiftly lead them away. When Apollo returned, he has no idea of what happened to his cows. He went to a cave, and found Titaness Maia and baby Hermes there. Hermes greeted Apollo, and acknowledged his stealth. He gave the lyre he just made to Apollo, in trade of the single cow he sacrificed. He made a new instrument which again charmed Apollo. This time, Hermes asked for Apollo's golden staff. Apollo took the amazing child to Zeus. He set Hermes for a trial being a messenger through gods.
