In the book Night, most prisoners lived in such a way that they hoped the conditions would get better, and they hoped that they would survive selection. They hoped that there was a better future ahead. Granted that not all of them actually believed this, such as Elie himself, however it was the hope that gave them motivation to see the next day. There was one fellow who lost this hope mentioned in the book. He was an older prisoner whose name was not provided in the book, but on selection day he was so sure that he wouldn't pass and he had absolutely no hope for any kind of future. He staunchly believed this was his end, so he made no effort to survive selection and it proved to be his demise. Some examples are when the parent gets really old and the grown child allows the parent to move in with them. The now grown child would have to provide a home, food and proper health care for that older parent. When living in the same household the parent might become sick, has a disability or a broken bone. The child would have to help them get better, such as getting them food, helping them around the house and aiding their needs for recovery. Also if a parent is addicted to 🤬 or alcohol, children find themselves becoming the mature adult to take care of that sick parent and the rest of the family. The responsibilities this child might have to take on is feeding the other children, getting jobs to support the family and provide a stable homelife, trying to get help for the adult suffering from addiction, and lots of other tough things a young child shouldn't have to do. In Night, Elie feels he needs to take care of his father and make sure he is ok over himself.

Elie has always had a strong faith in a higher power. He was religious, and wanted to learn all about God. He had a lot of faith in God. But, when he was brought into the concentration camps, this faith started to slip away from him. He felt that he could not believe in God because of the bad things happening. He felt as though God has given up on him, which made him lose his religious faith. Since he felt that he could no longer trust God, the only thing he was holding onto was his personal faith. Elie and his father's faith that this would get better was the only thing that kept them going. They relied on each other and were always there for each other to get through this hard situation. Blind faith is when someone continues to believe in something and is in denial that it will not help them. Elie continues to pray to God for things to get better, when really it is not helping him. For a little bit, he still believes that God is there and continues to pray to him even though it is not helping. Elie also mentions how he only has faith in Hit1er. He believes that Hit1er is the one helping them, when really, he is the one putting them through this. Elie is in denial that Hit1er is a bad person. He has faith in Hit1er when he should not.

There are definitely people who are self-preserved and who put themselves first. But, I think a majority of the world is willing to put others first and always help other people to the best of their ability. Most people would not put themselves through a life-threatening situation to help someone, but I think they still would do anything to help them. In Night, I think most of the people in the concentration camps care for each other. They all grew up in the same town, and have always been there for each other. In the concentration camps, some people share their portions of bread and coffee to to to others, and will do anything to protect each other. For example, Elie and his father. They would do anything to protect each other before protecting themselves, because that is what people do when they care about someone. Even the prisoners in the concentration camps try and give tips to everyone in order to survive. I think people care more about others, in most situations, especially in Night.

Sure, we have a ton of people around the world that do great things to contribute and help out others, but I think that the people that are more self-preserved rather than caring towards one another. People usually put themselves first, and make sure that they are okay and doing well before putting their concern on someone else. I get that this does not apply to everybody, but it applies to most. Take bullying for example. There are many times when people are bystanders and won't stand up for the person being bullied because they just don't want to get involved. This is self-preservation right here.

If we are talking about the people in Night, this is a completely different situation. In this situation, they are in a very stressful environment where they NEED to show care for each other, and this is evident in the relationship between Elie and his father. If we are talking in general, as I mentioned before, cheating on a significant other is something that I would not forgive. I would lose all trust in that person, and I do not think I would give them a second chance because there is a good chance that they will go and do it again. They would essentially lose all respect that I have for them.

In regards to Night, there is one main thing going on in this story that could never be forgivable, which is the fact that 🤬 is putting people in concentration camps, putting people through torture, and killing many innocent people who deserve to have a life and did nothing wrong. 🤬 could never be forgiven by anyone because the thing he did was so beyond forgiveness.
