Ask prompting questions that might push the teacher to think about and identify the issues I have noticed. Then craft that into tangible action steps we can work on collaboratively.

I wouldn't launch in with my interpretation immediately. I would ask them about their experience of the lesson and what they hope to talk about in our discussion today. I would want them to set their goals for learning, because there are multiple ways to improve based on what was observed, so there are multiple ways to begin growing together.

Don't bring up anything specific at first. Ask, "How can I support you?" Hopefully this will offer an opening for the teacher to discuss their concerns and struggles.

Provide the space for the teacher to reflect out loud about what her/his goals were for the lesson and what they were trying to be intentional about in order to help students make connections. That would provide the space for the teacher to share their feelings and it may help open up the opportunity for support.

All teachers have good intentions. All students deserve an environment that supports their learning. How do we balance supporting the teacher while making sure that the students have a high quality learning space?

Not letting the students down while supporting and encouraging the teacher to grow. It takes time for the teacher to learn, but the students need high quality instruction RIGHT NOW.

When does an improvement plan come into play? (I've never had to experience this)
