Gr. 8 C16 - GIRLS - Race & Coerced Labor _ Part 1 by

Be a reflective learner. You are an abolitionist who is against slavery and would like to see an end to slavery. Write a letter to a relative who lives far away and tell him/her about:
•	In the letter, talk about how weird and wrong it was to treat people like things you can own. Think about how race and money played a part in this.
•	Write about how this affected how people thought and treated each other. The letter should show how hard this time was and how people felt about fighting for freedom, fairness, or making money.
•	End the letter with what your character hopes or fears for the future, keeping in mind the history of that time.

Dear Annie,

I hope this letter finds you well. I feel compelled to share with you the deep distress I have been experiencing regarding the abhorrent practice of slavery. It is truly unfathomable how people were treated as mere possessions, devoid of the most fundamental human rights. The intertwining of race and money in this deplorable system is both weird and deeply wrong. The impact of slavery on how people perceived and treated each other is nothing short of devastating. It has sown seeds of division and inhumanity, poisoning the very fabric of society. The struggle for freedom and fairness in the face of such adversity has been incredibly arduous. The pervasive pursuit of wealth at the expense of human lives has cast a dark shadow over this time as an abolitionist, I fervently hope for a future where every individual is free and equal, where the shackles of oppression are finally broken. However, I also fear that the scars of this history may continue to haunt us, lingering as a painful reminder of the atrocities that should never be repeated.I long for the day when humanity's collective conscience triumphs over greed and prejudice, paving the way for a future where every person is truly free. May our efforts today contribute to the realization of this noble aspiration.

With heartfelt regards, Lea
lea

Dear Mia,

The conditions I have been seeing every day are truly disgusting, seeing human beings getting treated as if they are property, getting beaten for the simplest of mistakes, and the death rate that will wipe out all Africans! This is why I’ve decided to come forward and start fighting for my people, as these acts are just cruel and done by heartless people. It’s getting sickening hearing the endless cries and screams for help and the owners don’t mind as they don’t see these people have souls have lives! The owners would never admit that these actions are wrong, they would simply use race and beliefs as excuses, which is why we should all come together and put an end to this heartless behavior! This slave trade isn’t only affecting the enslaved Africans, but also the free ones, the free Africans still do not have all the rights they deserve, they aren’t treated as property, but they aren’t treated like humans. This slave trade is also causing more and more problems every passing day and is causing slave owners to see themselves at a higher level than others. We must put an end to this and I hope you will support and help me to do so.

Best regards

~Sara Sinno

Dear John,
I hope this finds you while you arent so busy with trivial matters. I’d like to tell you something with full honesty, as I, a humble cousin of yours, has much trust in you. Im in charge of the family buisness, and ive been seeing and training slaves to work relentlessly, and their cruel conditions deafens me so. My heart has been starting to pound with sorrow, with anger, with confusion. My heart, it feels oh so heavy. I feel like i could break into pieces. Their bruises hurt my eyes, I cant help but pity them, but honestly. The pain this has been given me feels unreal. I dont think this is just pity. I feel the pain, the pain they feel having to carry so much, having to walk so much, all the labor, all the unearned punishments. Oh cousin, this just feels so wrong. This is unhumane ! how could we do something like this? How could their bodys even take it? i feel helpless. This gives our family more then generations of wealth, but it is worth it? Look at the eyes and tell me it is. I cannot fathom the pain these poor people must be feeling. This system is so wrong. I watched a child, barely developed have to carry more then i ever had ! Oh dear john, I hope im not the only blind one. How could people be treated as possesions. How could they? Oh but I long for a future where such atrocities, such terrible, awful things dont exist. Its affecting our people aswell! People are becoming greedy hooligans! People are risking their lives, just for freedom while we have more then the world, but everyone just wants more! It makes it hard to find a decent man. let alone a decent woman. Everyone has become greedy, selfish, filled with anger! All people want is power and money, no matter the cost. Oh how i long for a time where such a system doesnt exist. If you feel the same as me, then I hope we can find a way to help put a stop, if not then I thank you for your silence in advance.
Best regards,
From Jory al majed

Dear maya

I hope this letter finds you well. I’m writing to share my thoughts on something that deeply troubles me: slavery. It’s so strange and wrong that people are treated as property, bought and sold. It’s hard to believe that this is happening in our world.

This terrible thing is all about race and money. People with darker skin are being made slaves, and it’s all for profit. It’s really unfair and it’s changing the way people see and treat each other. Some are only thinking about money, not about what’s right or fair.

Everyone is affected by this. It’s dividing people and causing a lot of pain and anger. But, there’s also a growing number of people who want to end slavery. They’re fighting for freedom and equality, and I stand with them.

I’m worried but also hopeful about the future. I dream of a time when everyone is treated equally, no matter their skin color. But I know it’s going to be a hard fight to get there. I hope we can make the world a better place for everyone.

Take care and think about these things. Our choices now will shape the future.

Lana Alenazi

Dear Lanyon,

I hope this letter find you well, however I fail to understand how it’s possible to treat other human beings so inhumanely, as if they’re objects. We’re all part of the human race yet we can treat each other this disgustingly differently due to just a matter of color? I hate it, how can our society lack this much basic human empathy on such a large scale. It’s clear humanity has fallen to greed and forgotten all morals. Everyday I pray for a better tomorrow in hopes that this hell will end soon. This is what will continue to drive my work as an an abolitionist. I apologize if my words came off too harshly, I just can’t stand for this treatment to continue and am passionate about putting an end to this.

Kind regards, Joud Albaoud.

Every day I wake up in hope of welcoming a better day, but always end up disappointed when facing reality. Forcing my demons away to sleep peacefully next to people with the same unfortunate fate as mine. Spotting a rope and the only thing coming to mind is hanging myself on it is truly sickening. I can see a lot of people treating each other differently and I think this should be changed, every people should be fair and helpful to each other. This place is very hard to earn money and to get freedom. It is very hard to have freedom, everyone is fighting for their life and freedom and money to live and I honestly think this should be change and every each people has right to be free and live their life. There a lot of people treating people in a different way because there are people who have different skin color or because of people who are high place force people to do things. They should treat people equally and fairly. I hope they treat them well and fair and have freedom in future. It must be an equal society.

Dear Yara,

I hope this message finds you well. The dehumanizing mindset of people as nothing more than objects, which I feel to be a troubling combination of race and wealth, disturbs me much. These days, it's difficult to distinguish between a human being and a commodity because skin color determines one's value and pursuing wealth frequently comes at the sacrifice of fundamental human decency.

This warped way of thinking has influenced social interactions, fostering hatred and mistrust. This is a difficult period characterized by conflicting goals of freedom, justice, and profit. In the future, I hope that the knowledge gained from this difficult time will lead to a more caring and just society. However, there is a persistent worry that the wounds from the past will get in the way of our progress toward true equality.

With hopw and concern

Maryam Gatan

Dear Noor,

I hope this finds you well, People enslaving others is something that has been upsetting me a lot lately, and I feel like I need to talk about it. It just seems so wrong, and it truly bothers me. I mean, why would someone believe that treating someone else as like they aren't even human is acceptable? It's as if everything that defines a human being is taken away. I find myself thinking about how horrible slavery must be for people. They aren't allowed to live their own lives or make their own decisions. They appear to be trapped, which is really unfair. It is simply wrong for anyone to be treated in that way. Everyone has a right to freedom, kindness, and respect no matter what their color is. Africans lost their families, homes, and everything while Europeans were getting richer because of the Africans. Everyone thinks of Africans as slaves now as if they are not human. Hopefully this stops soon

layan 8M

I’ve seen the ways they treat the ‘slaves’ due to the color of their skin. It’s sad how they use the ‘slaves’ to make money and use them to do labor. It’s a really hard thing to handle over here, almost everyone is distraught. It Was obvious that they longed for freedom and fairness.

Dear Matilda, I hope this letter arrives to you. I am suffering in silence. The Europeans don't care about the Africans. They treat them like objects. Masters are so cruel that they let poor kids work. Just because of the difference in skin color, they treat the Africans so much differently. Another reason they use us Africans as slaves is because they can make a big profit. The masters only care about money, not us, or our families. Slaves would try to talk to each other, but the masters don't allow it. Me and my friends suffer every day we can't do it anymore.
