On this summer day

This city is alive

 

The children are laughing

The birds are chirping

The Joy is in the air

The city is happy

 

Something flies near

Something drops near

Something glows

The city is scared

 

The air is warm

The blast pushes out the buildings 

Glass shattered

Dreams Shattered

Joy Shattered

The city is Damaged

 

Hospital, gone

Schools, gone

Patients, gone

Students, gone

The city is lost

 

The wind pushes us off our feet

The rain pours

We search for what we have lost

We mourn when we learn

The city has been killed

The atomic bombing of both Nagasaki and Hiroshima greatly saved American lives. American lives would have otherwise been lost in more D-day style landings and invasions of the Japanese homelands. The bombing prevented from the American invasion of Japan once again which would result in the execution of 100,000 or possibly more American prisoners. Also if the war continued more Japanese lives would have been lost because the Prime Minister Hideki Tojo had called for 100 million Japanese gyokusai which meant suicides because the Japanese tradition was to never surrender. 

Can we forget the flash? Suddenly everyone in the street has disappeared and what replaced them was thick black smoke. I can still hear the screaming from when it happened, stuck in my head and impossible to get out. I still remember the immediate yellow smoke which followed the buildings crashing down. Absolute terror. 

 

Radiation- the emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or as moving subatomic particles, especially high-energy particles which cause ionization.
