There are pros and cons to having foods with GMO's in it. If it has GMO's there will not be any insects in it. Also, it has tolerance for almost all weathers so they wont die. But, GMO's are also really bad. GMO's cause more and more allergic reaction. Lastly, it also causes cancers. That is very bad because that can lead to death.

https://www.healthline.com/health/gmos-pros-and-cons

DILLON ROMANO

Katharine Gilardi

In my article" Spuds or Duds" NASA wants to see if potatoes can be grown in harsh conditions like Mars. They use a dome to create the same atmosphere which is sand from the Pampas de las Joya desert. They are using potatoes because they are one of the healthiest foods and can be grown in many different conditions. Potatoes can be also grown underground. This is good because Mars has one-third of earth's gravity.
Central idea:
GMO's are altering some characteristics of potatoes so they can be grown in Mars- like conditions.
Supporting details:
- Can resist extreme drought, heat and cold.
- It is one of the healthiest foods packed with vitamin C, zinc, iron protein, and carbohydrates.
Vocabulary:
- Salinity is the saltiness or amount of salt dissolved in a body of water, called saline water.
- Ecological is relating to or concerned with the relation of living organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings.
Link: https://newsela.com/read/mars-potatoes/id/15772/
Poem:
GMO's are in our home
GMO's are in our food
GMO's are in all of us
And now we don't know when they are there and when they're not
