Ms. Cook was the first teacher to go out of her way to help me during my first couple of days at Plummer. She spent her precious time during the chaos of a new school year to make sure I was was ready to go. She was always patient and encouraging when I asked questions about the students we shared, and she was never without a creative idea for me to try with the kids. I regret that I only had the chance to know her for this school year, but I could tell that she was one of those rare teachers who was filled with a well of compassion that never ran dry. I know the children she taught have had their lives changed forever because of her.

As a first year speech therapist at Plummer this year, I will always remember how welcoming she was to me. My heart is heavy in thinking of how much her students will miss her. 💕🌸

Though I have fond memories of you with your students and times we shared as a staff, that is not what I will remember most about you. When I think of you, the memory that will come to mind will be your amazing relationship with your daughter! I loved seeing you walking together every morning. You always had smiles on your faces, and seemed to have so much to talk about. You seemed to enjoy each other's company so much, and that made me smile! I will miss you terribly, but I will remember you through this memory and through the impact you've made in so many students' lives!

In the 5 years I worked with Jennifer, she always came to work with a smile. Together with her assistant Sue, the both of them fostered a love of learning inside the classroom. She engaged and motivated her students everyday, from the beginning of the day till the last bell rang for dismissal. She advocated for her students with all her heart. As many of our Plummer colleagues mentioned, her relationship with her daughter Dani was truly special. It was evident as they walked from the parking lot to the main office together at the start of the morning. I will miss our conversations, whether they be about school or family, or anything about life. She was truly one of a kind. Her impact will live on through all the students she taught. With all my love,
Kat Chavez

I never called you by your first name, not because I didn’t feel comfortable around you, but out of respect. I appreciated your dedication to your students so much. We talked about the struggles of being a special ed teacher. We bonded over those struggles. Those conversations grew into moments of encouragement for you as you continued on in special ed, and for me as a gen ed teacher. You were frustrated at times, as we all are, but you handled it the best you could.
I will miss walking with you and Dani from the parking lot to the office. Running into you in the restroom and chatting with you. I never got to tell you how much I appreciated you paying for most of my baby shower. You were so generous! You were so kind and easy to talk to, especially nice since I was a new teacher to Plummer.
When I heard the news that you were ill, prayed for you. Hoping for a miracle. I couldn’t believe you were so sick so quick. It doesn’t seem right or fair that you’re gone. I pray that I will see you again in heaven, someday, and give you a big hug! Thank you for being a friend to me. You will be missed. ❤️😢
With love,
Jackie

Jennifer was a quiet grade level colleague who I grew to know more in personal conversations and via text messages. We would always share the cost of holiday goodie bags for our students. We would collect our packages and Sue would graciously put it ALL together for the children. Jennifer believed so much in providing a structured environment for her students to learn, and they DID LEARN! She was so proud of her three boys who exited back into a General Education classroom. Of course, she showed great care for the students still left in her charge. I think that is why she dreaded having to send out her beginning of the year Mainstreaming Message to the grade levels. I know she would have preferred keeping all her students throughout the day, plus it would have saved them the headache of remembering the various schedules and events, but Jennifer always followed the IEP mandates. I think I will remember the most Jennifer's quests to find the most suitable Christmas or Birthday gift for Sue. She would always text me, well in advance, "It's that time of year again, what does Sue need?" At first, we did a great job of messaging and talking in passing at school about possible ideas. But, Sue started catching on to Jennifer's inside helper, so then she made it harder for Jennifer to get any viable ideas. For my sister, the perfect gift was just working with "her teacher." I will fondly remember stepping into Room 25, to tell my sister one last thing before class, and seeing Jennifer and Dani sharing a moment before school started. What a beautiful way to start the morning, you were so lucky Jennifer! Many often say that teachers are like superheroes. If this is a good analogy, then I would say that Jennifer was a SPECIAL superhero with TWO capes! May you rest in peace in The City of God Jennifer.

I had the pleasure of working as Jennifer's aide, for the last five and a half years. She was a dedicated teacher and, as many have posted, she "always" had a smile on her face. Jennifer would laugh when I would call her "my teacher." And because of this, I often thought it my duty to take care of her and help her as best I could. I thanked her often for allowing me to have input in the daily routine of our class. She always included me in any decisions and made me truly feel like a teaching partner. One of our favorite topics of discussion were our TRUE LOVES - her children, Dani & Dylan, and my niece & nephew. We would laugh at their similarities all the time! I agree with my nephew when he said to me, "Sometimes coworkers are just people you work with and others make a lasting impression. They feel like long time friends even though you've only known them a few years." THANK YOU Jennifer for being that long time friend! I will miss you beyond what my words can express.

Ms. Cook loved getting pictures or video of her students' participation during mainstreaming. Holiday times were always special because Ms. Amaya would bring Ms. Cook's students for mainstreaming with their arms full of a fun activity for everyone to share. Ms. Cook's students' faces would be glowing and their eyes shining as my students got all excited over the activity to come. The activity was always presented as a "gift" from her students to mine. This was the love created in my classroom by Jennifer Cook.
Ms. Cook will be missed. My heart goes out to her students, her friends, and her family.
Sincerely,
Lynn Mejia

Ms. Cook
It took me several attempts to write my thoughts on this wonderful memorial wall. I was finally able to hold back my tears to do it. So, here it goes ...I have been substituting at Plummer for about four years now. I will never forget the first time I walked into Ms. Cook's class and being welcomed by Jennifer and Sue with such joy and wonderful smiles. That never changed as the years went by. No matter how challenging the class got, I always got a smile. I did not know her on a personal level, but seeing her interact with her students, her assistant and friend Sue and her daughter Dani gave me an insight of her personality. Having lost two beautiful sisters at such a young age and comforting their children I know too well (unfortunately) the pain and sorrow Jennifer's children and family must be experiencing. All I can say is that thinking of her brings tears now, but with time those tears will turn into smiles. Trust me, I know. I have been left with the tough responsibility of caring for those young children in her class. Her precious students for whom she cared and loved. I pray to God for guidance to do my best to care and comfort her students to the best of my ability. I pray for her family to find peace and comfort knowing that Jennifer Cook was very well loved and respected by us all. May she rest in peace.
With love and admiration,
Angelica Landeros

Ms. Cook dealt with stress in a very measured and calm way that was almost contagious. She never had less to do than others and often had more because of the many and different demands of her job. Yet, she almost always managed to have a sense of calm and joy about her work that was inspiring, amazing, and helped keep things in perspective. She was able to handle extreme situations with ease and a sense of humor that always reminded us to reflect on what we were feeling (how can we feel this way when her class is ALWAYS more challenging than ours?). She managed to set a benchmark, so that we could tell that on the few occasions Jennifer was stressed, we all knew that there was good cause. She didn't fly off the handle, and even in the most stressful times, Jennifer was ready with a quick smile or laugh, and it made others feel happy and at ease. Being able to work with her was a true gift. We will miss Jennifer deeply. Rest in Peace.

With much love,
Drew Wheeler &
Stephanie Turcer Wheeler

Ms. Cook,
It is difficult to put emotions into words when there is a loss such as this. From the first time we met, your smile never faded, even when I told you 'there's a new student coming in'.....
I will always remember you for your kindness to all, your heartfelt concern and support of your beautiful students that will forever remember you in a special way. We have lost a family member at Plummer but we will never forget you.
I continue to pray for you and your family and want them to know and feel the love and admiration we all share for you.
With much love and honor of having known you, may you know how blessed we were to have had you......rest in peace.
Diane

What a pleasure it was working with you...we got to know each other a bit since you sent a few of your students over to mainstream in my class. I'll always remember your kindness with helping to plan Tasty Tuesdays and in helping throw Jackie's baby girl shower! I'll for sure remember your beautiful smile, and how I was in a kind of shock when I found out you grew up with Angie Cob... Well, I pray you are having a wonderful time together in heaven!
With so much Love,
Kelly Knott
