Colour can be manipulated in different ways during the editing stage of photography. For example, manipulation of colour can be achieved through colour balance - as demonstrated below. It allows you to alter the colouring within the picture in order for you to balance out the tones to your liking. In this particular picture below, I reduced the yellow tones by increasing the blue, slightly decreased the pink tones by increasing the green and reduced the red tones by increasing the aqua. After experimenting with the colour balance, I was pleased with the result and final tone of the image.

Shapes are used to add personality and interest to a photograph. Many people use shapes paint brushes to create a border on their pictures as this is easily achieved, whereas there are also standard shapes that can be put onto images such as arrows, hearts and speech bubbles. These particular types of shapes are very commonly used in comic book images and children's book images.

If your photograph hasn't captured a desired texture, filters are a great way to achieve this. Photoshop has a large variety of different textures such as the one used below - crystalise. You can increase or decrease the intensity of the filter to create the perfect balance for what you want to achieve.

Cropping can be used if you capture something within a photograph that you don't want in the picture. It can also be used to resize an image or manipulate positions of subjects. For example, if you want a photograph of someone central in show but they are slightly towards the right, if you crop a little part off the left side, it will look like the photograph was taken with the person standing in the middle of the image.

The stamp tool can be used in many different ways, but very commonly in editing skin. As you can see below, I have used the stamp tool (which essentially copies and pastes other areas of the image) to cover up aspects of the face for example moles, freckles, etc. Changing the size of the tool and copying the skin colour next to what I want to cover meant that I could use the stamp tool in an effective and polished way.

It is simply pictures placed ontop of once another and can be used in different ways by using the same picture in different positions or using completely different pictures - which can create a symbolic effect.

When printing, it's important to check the size of your image. The functions of a printer typically print standard picture sizes - 7 by 5 inches, 8 by 6 inches and 9 by 7 inches. If your picture does not fit in with these print sizes, your image may need to be cropped or you may result in a white border around your image. You can change the image size to whatever you wish however, the print will not fill the whole page as it would mean re-scaling the image. Most frames are only sold as the standard image sizes so your manipulated image size won't fit standard photo frames - unless you pay to get one personalised.

Nowadays, photograph prints are commonly received through a shop or online order service. After choosing your image, before finalising the order, there will be a choice whether you want your images to be printed on matte or glossy paper. Matte paper makes the darker colours such as black appear more misty whereas glossy will make sure the blacks are prominent and true to colour.
