This article discusses many ways that Seattle and King County have helped its community to become healthier. Through partnerships and lifestyle changes, Seattle hopes to change their community for the better. Slowly but surely, King County has been breaking down barriers that involve inequity when it comes to food, food sources, and overall environments for a healthier lifestyle. Better quality food, more green spaces for physical activity, and less tobacco infested spaces help keep the community healthier. Not only educating the public on why eating good, nutritious food is beneficial for your overall health, but also being able to help provide fresh food for community members has helped reduce the risk of diabetes, obesity, and other major health concerns in the area. Moreover, public outdoor spaces have become safer and more. reliable, which motivates individuals to live a more active, healthier lifestyle. There's less pressure of tobacco and drug use around these areas, which helps create a family-friendly safe environment for all.

https://www.actionforhealthykids.org/
This organization is a non-profit that helps brings families and schools together to help community members have access to healthy, nutritious food while also allowing kids to stay active in a safe, fun environment. Within this organization, there are multiple programs to help ensure better nutrition as well as access to more physical activity. One program that Action for Healthy Kids has is EnergizEd, which aims to implement more physical activity in schools for children, since the hours spent on the screen is increasing, while hours of physical exercise is decreasing. EnergizEd focuses on time spent outside of Physical Education. Meaning, planning activities within the classroom that allow students to move around and become more involved, not only in their health, but also within the lesson plan/classroom. Physical activity has multiple benefits, including more engagement, which is what EnergizEd is aiming to do, along with other goals as well.

Feeding Young Minds

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/05/well/feeding-young-minds-the-importance-of-school-lunches.html

This article covers a lot of important information about children and school lunches. Jane E. Brody, from The New York Times, talks about how a school in Minnesota is thriving with offering good food and nutrition to their students. Almost 90% of their students are minorities and nearly 90% come from poor or struggling families. With that, they still graduate 90% of their students. He also mentions that adequate food and good nutrition have a huge impact on academic success. This is shown by their graduation totals. It is important for schools to offer students breakfast. Harding Senior High offers breakfast to all students to after first period. The staff at this school have done many studies on hungry, malnourished and obese children. All of these affect the education of students negatively. In 2010, many changes began to happen. Michelle Obama created many Acts that revamped school lunches. Lunches started to offer more vegetables, fruits, whole grains and age appropriate calories. Schools were also offered meal reimbursement funds to help prompt them to participate. Many children suffer from obesity, hunger and malnutrition, this has many negative effects on children, but it is a known fact that children suffering from one of these will have a harder time learning, paying attention in school, and score lower on testing. Offering free meal options, especially breakfast, can improve school attendance, behavior, concentration and overall academic performance. Overall, the meals children eat can have a major effect on a child's education. It is important that schools offer healthy, nutritional food to their students.
