In the video titled, ¨Love Is Love. A stand against Homophobia” the LGBTQ community are victims of homophobic bullying. They are the only homosexuals in a class or world full of homophobes. The bullies, or the people around them, also known as the perpetrators make life harder for the victims in many ways such as names which are ¨Fag¨ ¨Queer¨ ¨It¨ ¨Lesbo¨. No one stands up for them except for the up standers also known at the LGBTQ community its-self and others who made this video and shed light on the issue at hand. The LGBTQ uses these hateful/ hurtful words as an obstacle which makes them not only get kicked out of their homes, but it forces them to either dropout of high school or miss school because they feel unsafe.

The Coming Out Diaries

The chapter book, ¨The Coming Out Diaries, challenges stereotypes about homosexuals. For example, in this book, there is a short story in which a girl is ¨Pansexual¨ and is perfectly fine with showing who she is. The author seems to suggest that not all homosexuals are unhappy and unaccepted by all. Another assumption that is being challenged is that girls like to play with dolls and wear makeup.

Basically, the poem titled ¨Homophobia¨ by Raven Cloud is trying to stand up for gays, lesbians, the bisexuals, the transgendered and the pansexuals by giving us/ the readers/ the audience background / descriptions on how the ¨LGBTQ¨ community feels by using a series of strong words such as ¨Threatening¨, ¨safe¨ , ¨Wounds¨, ¨Hatred¨ and ¨Fear¨.

The poem by Angie May titled ¨FAGGOT¨ is trying to challenge the stereotype of genderroles. For example, the author states that ¨If you have a penis, you are a ¨he¨ and if you have a vagina, you are a ¨she¨ and if you break the rules, you are ¨it¨ ¨drag queen¨ ¨tranny¨. The author uses these gender roles to explain how the LGBTQ are wrong for being different. The author uses strong language such as ¨Faggot¨ ¨Suicide¨ and ¨Disapproval¨ to describe the hardships of being part of the LGBTQ community today.

The picture book, Heather Has Two Mommies, challenges many stereotypes about having two mothers. For example, in this story, it is the girl that is ¨ different¨ who has two mothers instead of one. The author seems to suggest that children with two of the same parents can be happy and not be bullied. Another assumption that is challenged is the idea that children from ¨different¨ families are afraid or ashamed of where/ who they came from.

Reasons why homosexuality should be accepted

The author of this article, is trying to challenge societies opinions on Lesbians, Gays, Transgendered and Pansexuals. The author seems to suggest that homosexuality and a persons sexual attraction is ok and that people are free to make their own choices. For example, the author states "a person who has decided to engage in sexual activities with the same gender is free to do so". The author also challenges the assumption that judging homosexuals is ok. For example, the author states that " "They are being outcast and their image tarnished which I think is inhuman and unjust. So to speak, homosexuality should be openly accepted on the grounds that, it shall not violate individual rights and freedoms in the state." This article is structured in sequencing events to help the reader understand homosexuals.

Society vs. Parents

This article challenges many peoples thinking when it comes to thinking about parents and their child. For example, "just 19% say there is “a lot” of social acceptance today and many say they have been victims of discrimination, such as being subject to slurs or jokes, or suffering rejection by a family member." Meaning society is more accepting than their own parents. 30% of teen suicide last year were because of homophobic bullying caused by bullies and parents. This article reinforces the assumptions that parents are less accepting than society its self. This article is structured by problem and solution to help parents be there for their kids and actually support them.
